At the moment Swinton are coming out with the best deal £120 fully comp, 5000 miles no club membership req, parked on the drive at night and with a guaranteed payout if anything happens, the only thing i dont get is breakown cover.

What sort of cover do you get though is it just rescue an tow you to a garage or o they take you home ???

When you have removed the impossible, the improbible how ever unlikely has to be the truth.

I have used Footman James since getting my first 7 about 5 years ago.

Generally happy with the service, last year's renewal was £280ish (sorry can't remember exact figure) for the 7 FHC & the V8 DHC on the same policy with agreed value on both & unlimited mileage.

When I sold the V8 I was about 2 months into the policy year & I called FJ to take the car off the policy. I asked about some kind of refund on the policy as the V8 had effectively only been on risk for 2 months of a 12 month policy (& no claims had been made), but I was flatly refused. FJ would not consider even a small goodwill refund, let alone 10 months worth on a pro rata basis.

I don't know if anyone else has had this kind of experience but I must say I did feel I was being ripped off at effectively having to pay 12 months premium for 2 months cover on the V8. Of course the FHC has remained on the policy but that has basically become an expensive year's cover for one standard car.

I shall be seeking other quotes later at renewal this year[:)]

Dad's car is £85 with ClassicLine for 5000 miles. However, because he obviously cannot use the car at the moment, they charge £45 for off the road cover which gives damage, fire and theft cover as long as it stays in the garage. They are very helpful people and only require that you are a member of one of the major clubs, Dad is a member of the TR Register.

OMG!
I've said it before, and I say it again:
You guys are getting ripped off by your insurance companies!!!

Over here in Sweden (Also an EU member state remember, so shouldn't be like I'm on another planet!)
for the TR8 I pay SEK 662 (~UKP50 / EUR60 / USD83) for the 12 month and SEK 257,000 coverage (~UKP19,800 / EUR23,400 / USD32,100).
The coverage is founded on an estimated cost of bringing another TR8 from dry-state USA and into Sweden to replace a totalled car,
since none of the six other TR8 are expected to be available for purchase at such a time...
It's unlimited mileage and I can go anywhere within the Green Card countries having full breakdown and transport-home cover
- but sure there are some limitations as well; the car needs to be garaged when at the home address, I cannot use it for work
or going shopping and such, only family members 24+y.o. can drive the car, I need to be a member of a Federation-member
club [who's annual membership fee for me as a founding/now honorary member is 0 - for life... [8D] ]

To sum it up: UKP 50 for every new rolling 12 month period, unlimited mileage, no for-gain-use.

And the 1st day in the month after it becomes 30 y.o. (30=May 6 2010, so from June 1st 2010) the annual road tax [now SEK 890
(~UKP69 / EUR81 / USD111)] disappears - and all I have to pay in the future is the annual registry fee of SEK 43 (~UKP3 / EUR4 / USD5)
plus the insurance of SEK 662 (~UKP50 / EUR60 / USD83). An annual total of SEK 705 (~UKP53 / EUR64 / USD88),
or roughly the cost of a tank-full of fuel...

You guys are getting ripped off!!!
