Refitting the engine

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">Hi guys/girls. I'm just about to drop my engine/gearbox back into body. My plan is to replace the refurbished subframe/steering rack/anti-rollbar/front suspension struts/wheels and then drop in the motor. I also have to replace the handbrake cable and handbrake - do I have to use one of the gaiters underneath and is it best done before I drop the engine in?

As always, all help would be greatly appreciated. </font id="blue"></font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">

The only thing obscuring the handbrake at the lever (front) end is the prop shaft. The gator is fastened by the 4 bolts that hold the hand brake lever onto the transmission tunnel & they come out from inside the car. The nuts are captured so won't need to be held to undo the bolts & won't fall out when the bolts are removed.

I would use a gaiter as it keeps crude out of handbrake mechanism. You can put it on from bottom with handbrake in. (I did as it was missing as were many rubber parts that disintegrated and fell off.) You just have to disconnect mechanism from cable which isn't a problem as you're replacing cable anyways.

macmattom,

Just a hint. If you raise the rear end of the car as high as you think is safe, it will make installing the engine/transmission a lot easier as you will not have to have the engine at a very steep angle.

and if you let the front tyres down you can increase the angle even more if the front panel is too high. My hired engine crane wouldn't raise the engine / gearbox combo to clear it.
