This Forum is great! But . . .

This forum is Great!! The owners and administrators do a wonderful job, at their own expense, I might add!

There are a few times when the server is very slow or when the site comes up, "Service Unavailable".

Since we are the ones who benefit from this forum, shouldn't we be the ones to suggest that we try to help the owners to up grade their equipment and connections service? If we all made a one time $25 donation to the owners, it would probably help them out tremendously.

I think that we have all gotten at least $25 worth of advice and help from this site. May of us have learned how to fix our Triumphs ourselves instead of having to pay a repair shop to do the work.

So, that do you guys think?

Great suggestion, Clay, I'd be down for that. I'm on a lot of Toyota forums and the connections are a lot quicker with no "Service Unavailable" errors. If the Admin. could set up a PayPal account or something similar, that would make it pretty convenient.

Another car site that I frequent has Silver ($25.) and Gold ($50.) memberships. You get a little gold or silver star next to your name. It's optional and not everyone contributes but many do and it is seen as a great way to thank the owner for his commitment for running a great site.

I personally would have no problem with that. Only thing is, it's a nice resource for people who are trying to find more info about the 7 before they buy. I think an up front fee would scare them off. However, down the road when people have been around for a while, I think people wouldn't mind chipping in some loot to keep this wonderful site going and help keeping their beasts on the road.

My suggestion was a one time thing, not a membership fee.

If we all do it now, then the site would be better and continue that way for several years. It would not be a requirement, but our way of giving back to this great Forum for all the help we have received.

I would contribute as well. Leave it free, but have an avenue open for donation. A PayPal account would simplify taking payments in from all over the world.

The fact that this forum is truly global, with people contributing from everywhere, is what makes it so interesting for me.

You would not want to lose all the information we have on this one

Another forum I use did something similar we paid £5 each and it went in to the running of the forum

And it stopped any advertisements ( I note we never get them on this site)

A voluntary donation seems a good idea.Many of us are frequent users
giving and taking alot of info and enjoyment.I'd be happy to help Jay improve the sites running.I notice he has not posted much here
lately,he must be very busy.

I agree 100% [:)] We all benefit from each other but does seem a little unfair that a few [?] have to pay for it. Volantry payment IMHO is the best way, that way no new owners of our great cars are put of joining our gathering place. Another forum i visit and post on has a suggested donation of £12 a year, £1 a month, when you donate you get a little 'badge' appear under your name as a 'Gold Member' this is renewed on a yearly basis or you can make a one off payment of any amount and become a 'Contributor'. Both of these are not mandatory but your choice. Payment via Paypal. This coincided with the change of forum format from one the same as this to a different type, this seamed to allow more feature so i guess cost more. It also has different areas sponsered by different company's but that is a different question!!!
Must admit have no idea how, what and cost is involed in running these forums. I am sorry for my ignorance [:I]

I'm with you John - I have no idea what it costs to host the forum, or how it's done.

For me, sending some cash would be a way to say thanks for doing this more then anything. I would hope he'd spend my money on beer and TR7 parts. [:D]

<font color="green">Spoke to Jay earlier in the week at a local CT meeting. Think it was the first one he has been to since last August. In between he has become a father or a baby boy, now around 9 months old (I'm hoping he doesn't mind me mentioning that). He did say he was working on an update to the main site but it's perhaps understandable that he has been busy with "other things." He has never mentioned to me and I have never asked how much it costs him to run the site so I really don't know whether the odd glitch is due to any issue which would be improved by cash contributions or not but I suspect that the lack of updates and Jay's only occasional presence here are not really to do with that issue.</font id="green">
