So I thought I'd poke that crusty looking bit...

You know, the inner wing...[}:)]

Now, I knew they'd been 'repaired' in the past, and whilst they were probably OK when done, it's not up to my expected standard of neatness. At a quick glance, the offside is the worst - there's plates on the inner wing in front of and behind the turret, badly blended in with filler, and I think the turret may be made of those seperated side and top plate kits[V].

But my main reason for digging deeper was the crusty/flakey wing mounting rail. Or rather, the area where itr should be! Oddly/luckily, the outer wings themselves appear to be pretty good though, so should at least be reusable, assuming I can get them off OK[:)]

So my quuestions are...

1. How is the front wing mounted? It looks like spot welds along the top (most of which as gone anyway!) and bolts to the A pillar, but what about the rest? I think it should be bolted to the nosecone, and spot welded to the sill and front panel - am I right?

2. What should the wing mounting rail look like? I can't find any particularly clear pics of this area with the wing removed; is it a box section, or a straight forward 'shelf', etc?

3. More importantly, got any pics of what this area should look like without an outer wing fitted?

Thanks in advance.

MrT.

JClays excellent web site will help you out.

If you scroll down the page to the 'Welding' section you will find all of the locations for the spot welds.
