Waxoyl or paint first ?

Postby Dave Dyer » 08 Mar 2010 19:26

Hi,

I'm about to waxoyl inside my sills, there is some surface rust that I cant get at to treat in some places, so I'm wondering do I pump waxoyl over everything, or do I spray rust paint (smoothrite) first and then the waxoyl ? Or does the waxoyl have to make direct contact with the rust to control it ?

Cheers, Dave

There is something called Ship-2-Shore. You spray it on and it combines with rust and prevents further rusting, better than waxoil and I think you can paint over it. They have a web site. I haven't tried it yet but one of their testimonials is a local feed and fertilizer trucking firm. I'm going to use it on Yellow TCT in sills etc. It's $80 per 4 liter jug. Cheaper than other similar product sold by a marine suply store down the road.
