Wayne - as for nearly completing the car, it's like walking up a sand dune! I have just gotten to the point that I can attempt to start the engine running but before that I wanted to sort out all my electrics. Everything works superbly except for one thing - I simply cannot get the headlight pods up when I pull back on the indicator stalk, but both headlights light-up.
Checking the wiring out it appears that the wiring is a complete goat - I have the wire that goes from the seat-belt warning light feeding into the pecktron unit and am completely confused [V][V]. I reckon I'll simply tie-wrap both ends of the loom to stop the wires exploding everywhere, then cut off the wrapping tape to expose all the wires and then see where the spaghetti goes. Once I've diagnosed the problem I'll get some heatshrink over the wires and tidy them all up.
As for the other electrics, apart from one headlight motor travelling about 1/4 of a second faster than the other (which I'll live with - it's certainly close enough), everything else is great.
Time is now my biggest enemy as I've just started a job that limits my already severely restricted time greatly and I'll be lucky to get 4 hours a week on the car. I'm seriously thinking of trailering the car to somewhere like Robsport and saying "Call me when it passes the MoT!" I don't think it'll be a long job so hopefully I can stretch my budget. I'll just have to wait and see. I did want it on the road this year but might have to accept that I'll be better off waiting until next year.
Nobody told me this would be easy, but they never told me it would be this tough!!!
Thanks again, it's probably only the advice I've gotten from this site and seeing all you other guys struggling to keep your 7s and 8s on the road that keeps me going. Knowing I'm not alone and anticipating how much pride I'll have when I'm driving the car through the middle of town will make all this worthwhile.
