Paint

My doors have rusted through at the bottom and I managed to pick up a good pair of second hand ones on ebay (£30 for the two - bargin!). The motor vehicle dept in the college where I work will spray them for me but how do I find the colour code? The car is a sort of dark burgundy red (See my photos).

-try to have a local bodyshop or paint supplier scan the paint for possible code variations ....have some samples made (it could cost you a couple of bucks) and choose the one that matches best.

Yes, as far as I know this is factory paint, standard Britsh Leyland colour

The paint code should be on the data plate.

I'd be careful if I were you - if it is the factory paint, then it'll almost certainly have faded by now. If you do the doors in fresh paint to the same code, it'll more than likely be slightly mismatched. You could probably polish up the rest of the paint to get it matching, but that's a lot of work, depending on the condition of the paint.

Might just be easier to go with a colour matching service. [:)]

Looks indeed like CCK, the colour of my DHC (before the restoration that is)
Best to have the paint scanned as it will have faded over the years, unless you want to respray the complete car of course ...

10-4, especially red as that colour fades more than others for some reason, something to do with pigments and wave lenghths of light.

I got my paint last from Halford's for around a tenner.

You could always go there and get them to make up a can and then spray a piece of card/paprt and when dry hold it against your paintwork. This way you could see if it is correct and if there is much of a colour difference/fade. They will not have Triumph listed so will need to say TR7 under their listing of Rover Group. Do not think they do touch up pens.

The colour code is on the data plate but be careful. Rover re-used the paint codes and now my Triton Green code is the same as a Land Rover Epson Green. There is a 'slight difference' in tone.

I've just bought Triumph Sapphire Blue. Around a tenner for an aerosol can, and a bit less for a pot of touch-up, complete with a 'free' applicator-pen.
