V8 Lightened Flywheel

Postby DJV » 18 Jul 2009 23:05

Posting this request here to see if anyone has any suggestions

I am re building a 4 litre engine to replace the 3.5 presently fitted to my car and have heard good reports on the benefits of lightening the standard flywheel. The prices of new units are prohibitive and I wondered whether anyone of you may have the dimension details of the required machining, as I have access to a good machine shop but require the dimensions showing where and how much material can be removed?

Appreciate any thoughts on this, noting I am not going for maximum lightness but a half way house to improve the acceleration pickup, without compromising the tickover performance too much

cheers

John

John, Googled lightened flywheel brought up about 400,000 hits on the related subject. One of the sites has info on before and after with pics with an Email me remark. I think {schhh} VW site shows the side by side comparison. While, not a TR the info is still valid for TR applications. Hope this helps. GOOGLE is your friend....
