VTR Nationals: On the Road

End of Day Three finds Dolly and I in eastern Montana, about 1200 miles from the Pacific Ocean. We are roughly following the route of the Lewis & Clark Expedition from west to east. No serious difficulties yet, but I am hearing some new noises from the car...

Well...after looking at the schedule I might as well cancel my reservation as the night I will be there the main event is a reception for all and I just found out that if you are not registered for the event you are not allowed in.
So will be a waste of a trip to go all that way and not be able to mingle with people I want to meet.

We've not registered for anything Don so I would be surprised if there won't be a whole bunch of us getting together elsewhere that evening.

Ken, we went by Stonehenge today and I have to say, it doesn't look like that! Maybe when it was re-assembled here about 150 years back they didn't work to the same plans.

John, the Maryhill Stonehenge is a bit like a plastic-bodied Cobra replica; not the real thing, but fun anyway.

Clint / Woody, thanks for the offer of support. I'll keep your phone number handy...

Wish I was there. I think the Maryhill Stonehenge came in the kit with all the pieces.[8D]

Hopefully the noises you are hearing are the same ones drivers hear when leading the last lap in a Formula 1 race.

What an epic trip! I wish I could have gone too. Please keep us updated so that we can share it vicariously.

The Stonehenge replica is a monument to the Klicitat county men that lost their lives in WWI. It was Samuel Hill's idea of what it would have looked like complete. Yes, it is a bit cheezy. Hill was also responsible for the gorge scenic highway and the Maryhill museum is housed in his former mansion. His tomb is downhill from the Stonehenge replica.

I'm VERY envious, wish I had the time (and balls) to make the trip.
I always find louder tunes (I can't drive 55 or Life's been Good) drowns out the odd noises.
Looking forward to more reports.
Good Luck.

The TR8 continues to make tracks toward North Carolina. The steering squeaks, oil pours out the bottom of the engine, and there's a little clatter after starting (hydraulic lifter?) But it's running strong, cruising at 70+ on the interstates and a little less on the back roads. Mileage is about 20 to 21 mpg, which pleases me. We're in Evansville, Indiana, tonight, about 2600 miles from where we started a week ago in Oregon. One more night on the road.
