It looks like there may be some crumbs that drop out of all this economic gloom. For those of us on the left side of the pond, prices at Rimmer are a bargain. I just checked a couple of prices: Fuel tank at Rimmer US239, Victoria British US500. Fuel pump at Rimmer US32, VB US90. Even with the extra shipping I would think there are big savings to be had.

I love the quality of rimmer's products, always fit right and looked well made. But I always got killed with the shipping.

If I remember right, didnt Rimmer Bros build a warehouse in Georgia or somewhere of the sorts here in the States? I meant to call over there and ask them, because I once heard you could buy Rimmers stuff and wait untill they have another bulk shipment headed to thier warehouse (here in the states) to save $ on shipping-charges.

Anyone have any insite on this? Im going to need some parts that I dont have in my stockpile, and would like to order some things from them again. (like a set of red-plaid door panels, etc. Stuff ya cant buy new here)

Yes the rate is more favorable now...for us. [;)] Works out to about 1.38 right now. Think it was close to 2.0 at one time. Someone on the MGB site was wondering if we will see a price drop from the US suppliers..Moss VB ect?

Seems all of the suppliers inflate shipping costs. The UK fella I got the Quaife, gearset & carrier quoted 69GBP (about $95USD) to ship the whole package and was somewhat appologetic! Rimmer quoted 115GBP for just the Quaife and gearset....no carrier. Directly from Quaife UK was higher than that for just the LSD. Whole lump will end up costing me about 800USD to my door. Compared to what they want over here for a new Quaife(1200-1300), I am very happy.[:D] Plus I get a spare set of 3.45s, the somewhat unobtainable crush sleeve and installed side brgs. Can't wait to get it installed and see what traction to both tires does.[:D] Sorry to seem gloating, I really am excited about it.

I think we are all in the same boat my friend. I just told a friend of mine that they talk of a global economy. What that seems to say is we will all sink to the same level. Sort of like flushing the commode![:(]

Dont forget the guys at Robsport and S+S Prep, they supply Rimmers with a lot there remanufatured items (they have the tooling ect made materials sourced ect ect) and can offer more advice than Rimmers can or ever will be able too, in IMHO are FAR better to deal with than Rimmers and are true 'wedge heads' [8D]

I'm finding the same problem with freight costs. Parts might be cheap, but freight from the UK is a killer. Freight from the US is cheaper, so even though VBs prices may be higher, by the time you factor in shipping to Oz, VBs prices sometimes work out better.
Surely freight companies that ship cars in containers would have spare room that they could ship bigger parts and panels cheaply around the world? Would have to be cheaper than sending by DHL or parcelforce & the like. Anyone ever investigated to see if that is viable?

NO longer ship by DHL, almost out of business in USA.
They shut down major shipping center in OHIO, putting 1000's
out work.

It's been several years since I ordered from Rimmer, but at that time the cost was comparable to Moss or the Roadster Factory, even with shipping included. Of course, we get charged big time for shipping to Alaska from the lower 48 states too, so nothing is cheap here!

It seems that there is no option to send parts purchased overseas by surface anymore so everything is sent by air whether you need it tomorrow or not.

So its looking like us colonials have no options for cheaper freight, we just have to pay through the nose, cause nobody here stocks them.
I just got quoted Â£185 to ship a Â£95 rear deck skin from the UK to Australia. Add in the dollar conversion rate & makes it over AUS$600, which is well over a weeks wages! No bargain there!!!

Here is an example of a real order to the US from Rimmer. Total cost of the parts: 168.00 USD. Total cost of shipping 43.00 USD for 3kg (ouch.) Equivalent parts at Victoria British: 274.00 USD. Shipping (my estimation:) 15.00 USD. Totals: Rimmer 212.00. VB 289.00. One part was ordered out of the Rimmer Specials catalogue which amounted to a savings of 36.00.
Bottom line. I saved approximately 77.00 USD which is about 27%. Buy expensive but low weight items for max savings.

The import tax is usually less that the VAT the brits pay over the counter.

I'm finding the response time from S&S to be a bit slow to be blunt.

I received an order from Robsport yesterday. It took two weeks to arrive (probably due to Canada Post Customs) and I did have to pay about 4% duty, but the order was almost half the cost compared to buying the same parts from the States.
