Blinker, Flasher, Horn, Headlight Switch

My sleeve got caught on the Horn, flasher, yada, yada switch and I heard a "POP!" Now, the headlights are stuck on brights and I can trun them OFF. Even with the headlight switch in the off position and the car turned off, the headlights are shining on the ground.

Anyone every had this problem? Should I take it apart or order a new multi-function switch? Can't drive it as you have to remove the battery cable to turn off the lights and this is my daily driver.

Ordered new switch off eBay. Will just pull the fuses and High Beam indicator light and run with fog lights.

Within in the switch is the bullet and feather come from the handle loose and makes now a permanent kontakt.
Maybe you can repair this but better is a new one

jclay, these are one of those things, that once you've seen one
apart, its quite easy to fix them.

The main problem is, when you take the first one apart, little bits
can go everywhere.

Now you have ordered one, you have nothing to loose, so you may as
well have a look, yourself. You will have no trouble figuring it
out, once you have a look.

With a number of them I have cut one turn off the little coil
springs in there, which means less pressure to operate the leaver, &
less likelihood of breaking the old, & now brittle, plastic.

I did exactly the same thing - caught the darn lever on my sleeve!

FWIW, as a stopgap measure, I stuck a piece of a matchbook cover behind the high beam contact on the switch until I got a chance to take it apart and fix it. The contact is visible with the top column shroud removed.

Like Hasbeen said, the switches are pretty fixable...maybe you could add another "How To" to your excellent website.

Thanks all for your suggestions!

I took that crazy cover off this morning and found a broken piece of plastic in the bottom half. There was no obvious place where the plastic had broken off.

I traced down the connectors that control the high beams and bent it out of the way. I have regular beams now and the lights do not stay on all of the time.

I have looked at a lot of steering wheels on the web and had noticed that mine looked different. It has a black ring in the middle that says "Made In France". I realized that someone had put the wheel on the hub from the back instead of from the front. Now I have an excuse to take the wheel off and fix it properly!

Ferris, When I replace the switch, I will take photos and show how to replace it. Thanks for the suggestion!
