Hi,

Bad luck but better it came of in your hand now then down the road miles from anywhere.

Only speaking personally I would drill out the remaining pipe and tap the housing out and fit a suitable union. If you want to keep her original then a new one it is, I know some are now difficult to get hold of though, I believe there are 3 types.

Cheers John

Drill it out for sure but I would try to find some pipe that is a tight fit then use a chemical weld type product. I tend to use "JB Weld" for water/oil/fuel lines and not had one fail (yet).

Easily welded, that's what i'd do. Phone a welding fabrication firm and ask for a price, you may be pleasently surprised, they may even do it for free ;-)

Mine snapped off as well. 1/8" NPT tap and a fitting works well. I didn't drill it out either. It's like the engineer who designed it knew it would break off eventually and let the inside diameter the near perfect size for that tap.

(also while I was at it I skimmed the gasket surface and replaced the top plug since mine was royally effed up and needed replacement)
