I've finally gone and done it.

Postby macmattom » 13 Mar 2010 20:09

Well, after months of deliberating I finally decided to put on some fog lights. I've been pondering whether to fit any, and if so what sort and where to fit them. I was split between what I ended up with or a pair hanging underneath like most later 7s/8s. I was hoping to get a pair of those Mazda Eunos fog-lights which are nice and slim, and put them next to the number plate, but couldn't find any for less than £16 each, plus postage. After much deliberation, I opted for these. They aren't as shallow as the Mazda ones, but don't stick out any further than the rear light lens, so actually fit really well. The following images won't be to everybodies taste (not my fault you've got no style [8D] ) but I reckon they look great, and it's my car [:D].

They are a set of original period Raydyot (sp [?]) fogs, won from ebay for 99p [:D] (£6 postage, but happy with £7 overall [:)]). The number plate isn't secured yet, just held up with a bit of masking tape, hence it's a little bit skew, but that'll be put right when I fix it permanently. So, just the case of that leaking water pump now [:(!].

A Speke built coupe with a paint job that makes you want to lick it... I don't have a problem with that!

Well done..Nice car.

If you look at pages 112 & 114 of Chris Harveys "TR For Triumph" there are a couple of pictures of PVC 568 W (X925), a quite famous experimental TR8 used for all sorts of trim development/evaluation. Both pictures show the rear panel with the same type of fog lights in the same place you've got yours, could possibly have been a future placement had the marque lasted a while longer.
These would appear to have subsiquently been removed and replaced with a traditional set under the rear bumper. This car is currently still for sale in south England for £ 13000.

My car's gone down a slightly different route, I think both ideas are better than extra lights hanging under the bumper like an afterthought.

That's a neat installation in the rear bumper! I just double filamented the side lights so they are now side + brake, and used the old brake lights as the rear fog warning lights. Not absolutely legal - but the MOT man is perfectly happy - and I ONLY ever use them to pass the MOT!

Rather than installing fog lights I moved to a place that doesn't have fog. Saved a bit of time there.

Yours look good though.

why not use an old piece of red lens from a scrapper cut to shape and place it behind the clear lens you wish to change just like the indicator that way you can always change it back if you dont like it

It rides again..... and again wehey!!!!!!!

You could use red bulbs like the kids use in their 'Lexus style' lights on boy racer cars.

Another thought...... how about converting the reflectors next to the tail lamps into foglamps? sort of half foglamp and half reflector to keep the MOT man happy? infact, when i get time i'll do it myself! the only issue would be if a foglamp has to be of a certain area so as to be legal. from the outside it would look completely standard, which is nice!

The install was done by the PO when it was converted to V8. I have no idea what the lights are from. All I know is they're japanese lights & the conversion was done in 94/96 so they won't be from anything newer than that.
There's not much space between the plastic & metal bumper parts so a clearance hole needs to be formed in both bits. It's a pretty simple job once you've found some suitable lights.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Andy,

I also REALLY like yours [:D] , and might have considered it if a) I'd thought about it [V] and b) been brave enough [:I]. It looks superb.

I also like Peter's idea - am working on that with swmbo [;)].

Mac.

mac, you have the original bumpers blended in too do you? also toyed with swapping back bumper for peugeot 405 as supposed to be a straight swap but then leaves me wondering what to do with the front of the car.....
