so who's driving their wedge this year????

Postby silverseven » 27 Jun 2009 03:10

FISpyder recently posted in one of his meet threads , how he's noticed a lack of wedges attending shows this year in his region, I must say there's possibly a decline in my area too.........

I've yet to see a wedge on the road this year, but found a good half dozen or so wedges locally laid up in parking lots, backyards, and even just found a v6 dhc at the local recycler!

For the record, (and for the first time in 10 years ownership) my car won't be coming out this year, partly due to a down clutch slave, but mostly because of a lack of time to devote to the car because of family commitments, work load, budget, and it's getting hard to juggle three young kids in a two-seater !!!

I've also found a new love for biking (the pedal kind [;)])
I recently purchased for the first time a quality hybrid bike, am able to go out for runs with the kids (oldest rides solo on hers, the two younger one's are attached to me train style with a trail-a-bike and then the youngest in the trailer at the rear) and also have been doing the "green thing" by commuting to and from work with the bicycle.

So who else is wedgeless this year, and why?????

Ron.

Exactly the oposite here, Ron. Having finally got the 8 back from
the painters, I have 2 wedges competing for attention.

Normally a dry time here in north Oz, we have had more rain this
year in April-June than in living memory. When we get a couple of
dry days I find myself driving the 25Km to one of the near by towns
for a coffee, just to blow the cobwebs out of one of the cars. As I
have not had the top up on the 8, since it came home, it's not got
that much use.

At least I have time to spare. about half of my propewrty is too wet
to get too, except on foot, or a horse, so not much work to do. My
dam has filled for only the 3Rd time in 18 years, so I don't even
have any water pumping to do.

Perhaps you had better drop everything & come over & help me out
with some driving.

Drive my 7 all the time. Having taken 1st place in the local ABCD for the last 3 years, my car should be a feature car this year.

I will also be putting the TR7V8 together as I work around "Mother" time.

Oh, Yes. My oldest daughter is getting married in 14 days and my youngest got engaged last night and will be getting married in January!

This should be an interesting year!!

I have to keep driving mine. When you live this far from a parts reseller any car that spends too long without moving gets claimed as a parts car. [:D]

I'm driving my Spider for third year, 2006 purchased and underwent a one year go over to get it up to speed for saftey check after 7 years of storage.

Been busy building front deck this spring/summer so have spent limited time on TCT (my $100 yellow DHC) stripping it down for repaint but that will change shortly as I have to have it ready to paint before end of year as only water based paint will be allowed after. (Doing it myself). I do plan on making car shows every 2 to three weeks throughout the summer (done three so far) including ABFM at Portland, Oregon on labour day weekend.

Whenever I get the opportunity. [:)]

It's been a reasonable summer so far. The car is parked up in the garage under a dust sheet with the top down and toneau cover fitted just ready for some fun.

I reconditioned a heater box from 2 good ones and fitted new stainless steel pipes and rubber seals to it. I had planned to replace the bypassed item in the car with it a couple of months ago but there have been too many opportunities for driving days. The MOT is due sometime in October so I'll wait till that's done before ripping the dashboard out.

I don't see Wedges on the road here at all unless visiting a show or Robsport. No opportunites to flash at each other any more.......

i keep both mine on the road all year round but admit this year i will be taking the FHC off the road for provisionally for 6 months and thats purely down to the need to tighten my budget and uncertanties of the times we are now in..

Infact it's not just the lack of 7's on the road but we are very active in the south here with club runs every month shows, and other events and we are definetly down on cars attending but a good 30%.. i would bet that is true through out all classic cars

i'm edging my bets here but i wouldn't be surprised to see that reflected in the attendance at the Two national events taking place in July

Mine gets out and exercises whenever I have the spare moment or two.

We drove it to New Orleans, approx. 600 miles each way, for their car show a couple months ago. Lots of thumbs-ups along the way. The car performed flawlessly, including the air conditioner, which we didn't have to use until we got close to N.O.

Also drove it over to East Tennessee for the show there last month.

But I've seen very few others on the roads, or at the couple of shows I've attended. Pity, that.

I am now working overseas so not using mine as much as normal, but last month it went to LeMans (clocked up about 1000 miles) and will be doing the 10 CR rally in September which will be another 3000. Looking back through the old MOT's this is more than the annual average (only just over 2300 miles/year!) and was only significantly exceeded in 1986 (9000) 1987 (11000) & last year(8000). So mine will be seen more than usual, credit crunch or no credit crunch.

There weren't many TR7's at LeMans, but spotted a nice Grinnal version & a red 2L DHC - being unusual compared with all the common Porches, Aston's and Ferrari's my 7 attracted quite a few good comments. Mind you there were a lot less classic / sports cars there in general.

I think were all feeling the pinch. Two of my wedges are safely tucked
up and hibernating this year. The Grinnall is barely on the road,no
money to spend on it as i've had so little work these past 6 months.
Trying hard not to sell them, cos i'd never find another decent auto, and
how the hell would i replace Godzilla?!My mate Rob,has sold his v8 as
he says its too expensive for him to run,but at least its being replaced
with another wedge,a fhc 2.0l.
Still,i'm staying positive-that lottery is all mine tonite!!

Mine's tucked up in storage while I build a decent garage to put it in. Should be finished about September. When I get it back home it's being stripped for a full respray & rebuild, so will probably be off the road for another year or so. When it's done I intend to use it as much as I can.

Haven't been wedgeless since 1994 ...
Though nowadays they are only used for fun, like Le Carrera Caledonia in Scotland a few weeks ago ...

Am still without a DHC at the moment though (for obvious reasons [:)])
