Mine is on EP75/80 - as per manual. Yes - the first change from 1st to 2nd in the morning has to be done slowly - after that - it's fine!

Dexron II can't meet M2C-33G spec because that spec is specifically NOT Dexron type. I wouldn't use Dexron type fluids because they have friction modifiers in them which could affect the operation of the synchros. M2C-33G however doesn't have the modifiers in it, and doesn't get as thin when hot as the Dexron does, and that is what I have always used, and will continue to do so.

I will have to check what is in the garage (a few miles away). Stand corrected if it is not DII, I know I looked for the stated spec. (May be stated in error as I use DII in the Saab).

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">So would any ATF do, or is there a prefferred choice? I'm leaning towards the Castrol SMX-S as I've seen that around, but is that a decent ATF? If not, what is good but, importantly, readily available?

I know opinions will vary, but they also help those of us new to the game make our own minds up.

Cheers,

I stand corrected, the oil I use is Comma AQF (not Dexron II). It is to the (Ford) spec M2C-33G. I have not had a problem and it is only about £15 for 5 litres from the local factor.

I listened to all the Castrol SMX-S recommendations on this forum and drained perfectly good ATF to fill with the expensive synthetic. And my expereince: SMX-S is definitely worse at cold, 2nd almost impossible to select. Slightly better 2nd grear selection when warm but that wasn't a problem I was trying to solve. Also I can't be sure, but I not happy with the sound coming from my tranmission over 70mph. If I could be bothered I'll be changing back to ATF and someone else have have 2liters of barely used SMX-S to play with!!

M2C-33G spec. fluid is also the only one to use if you have a car fitted with a BW65
