What's the widest wheel I can put in the rear?

15x7 inch rims will probably rub with 205/50 tyres. Mine do but the same tyre on a 15x6 is fine.

IMO, a 6" rim will acomadate the practical limit on width as far as tire sizes go. I would highly reccomend 15" with a corosponding tire size. 205/50/15 would fit the bill. 15" because the choice of performance tires in 14" is extremely limited. 205/50/15 also is a Miata size so much more popular. As far as widest possible, would depend on geting the offset perfect. Again IMO, I think you would have to have a real good reason to go much wider.

Funny that you posted this question since I was just about comment on your original post. There has been a lot of discussion on the MGB forum about old tires failing even when they look fine. I just reread and saw where yours has the OE tires! Glad they are on your
short to do list.[:D]

Peter was posting at the same time as I. He said it with much fewer words.[:D]

Finally had time to work on my TR7. Items 1-3 were completed. In order to get tires, I have to drive it to the tire shop which requires a Permit since the car is registered as "Planned Non-Op". In order to get a 1 day permit, it needs a proof of insurance and to pay for the License Plate tags (dayam Calif. DMV). Hopefully, I'll get this done early next week.

I also added pics to this thread. More things i need to work on...

1. Turn signal switch (broken)
2. Steering wheel column moves 1/4 of an inch up/down (
3. Install/Wire-up Climate Control/Radio Bezel.

The loose column will most likely be the bush in the firewall. TSI has them in urethane. A little tip...they fit in really tight. I had to loosen the U-joint and pinch clamp on the shaft to pull it back. Once the bush is in place slide the shaft back through and put it all back together. Also put some silicone grease on the shaft where it rides in the bush or it will squeak when you turn the wheel. Don't ask how I know that.[:I]

It may also be the telescopic adjustment clamp on the column just inside the footwell.
