Boot switch

Postby Triumph TR7V8 coupé » 07 May 2010 11:57

Hello guys and girls

Has anyone got some pictures of the location from the boot light and switch, can’t seem to remember I had this on my ’77 neither on the ’78 (possibly forgot about it when I dismantled the car 15 years ago).
Also saw that Beans has two switches in the left side door, what’s the second switch for?

Greetings, J.

Beans has posted this in another thread:-

As you can see I removed the bootlids hinges so they could be coated properly.
Also gave me the opportunity to replace the rivets with bolts and plastic bushes.

One is for the door light and the other is for the Key-in-car buzzer.

The activation tab is quite flimsey (Beans has modified his) and sometimes doesn't transfer the switch with the result of the boot light remaining on when the boot is closed and draining the battery after a time. PO's often just remove the switch to "fix" the problem. Probably what happened with yours. I sometimes leave my boot up at auto shows (unrestored boot looks brand new) so I've just disconnected the wire so if I ever need it I can just reconnect. I may install a micro switch out of the way at some point.

I can't see how he's modified it, it looks exactly the same as mine (except his is clean and his hinge is powder coated).

I didn't modify it, it's an original boot light switch.
They are slighlty different from the interior light switches in the A-posts.

I was thinking of my Yellow TCT which just has a thin tab of metal welded to the hinge which is pron to bending (which it was with paint cracked). When I checked the Spider it's the same as Beans' car. Just one of the differences (improvements) between early 79 and July '80 build dates.
