Tyre sizes

Postby prlee » 03 May 2010 19:56

Probably been answered before, but I am wondering what are the tyre sizes you can fit to the standard TR7 alloys. I dont want to affect the speedometer readings.

I use factory standard size 185 70. Look pretty good.

Standard tyre sizes are 185/70 x 13.

What brand of tires do people run in the standard size? When I look, I find very limited options (Kumho, Sumitomo, 1 Firestone, 1 BF Goodrich (expensive).

I hope this is still on topic.

185/70R13 indeed is the only readily available size nowadays for road legal tyres.

As far as I know 195 section tyres aren't available for R13 wheels,
and 205 tyres are really to wide for 5.5Jx13 wheels ...

Check manufacturers specifications for minimum rim width.

Continental, Avon, Michelin and Yokohama (to name a few) all supply decent 185/70R13 tyres.

I know of a couple folks running Sumitomo HTR 200 205/60 R13 who like them alot, and the outside diameter is very close to stock. $56 a piece at Tirerack.com. I hope to be ordering a set soon...

I use Kumho tires. No visible wear on them yet. Sticks like glue whether I'm yanking it around a turn or round a tight traffic circle. Good balance when doing a hard turn in intersection with standing water on road. A large part of that is the handling of the car. I can (have) lock(ed) them up in wet and dry but my brakes work pretty good.

There is an article in the Winter 2005 issue of British Motoring with a lot of useful wheel and tire sizing info in general and specific to TR7/8's...

Thanks guys, I asked because the standard size seems a little non standard stock these days. So the 205/60 is an alternative which could improve handling as well.

Good info from the article.

Glad to see the site back, what happened?
