I've just cut out a rusty section of my front wing and made a patch up and welded it in. The trouble is i've made it from stainless steel and i'm not sure paint sticks to it!!!! Any ideas?

At least you won't have to worry about the repair itself, as long as it is welded properly.
Make sure you prepare the surface properly and use a proper primer.

thanks beans. The weld is very strong, i've used stainless steel filler rod and the welds are at least as thick as the panel. Maybe stainless steel patches are the future....

I can´t see the point in using stainless here.
You can sand down, or (preferably) sandblast the stainless area and then apply etch primer prior to painting, but you will inevitably have to use body filler to finish off the job and here you´ll have a problem because the filler should be applied to bare steel, but it hasn´t got enough grip (if any) on stainless. The filler will eventually lift off, so you will never have a lasting job (IMHO)

The point of using stainless steel was that it was free and already in my garage, if i had mild steel i would of used that. I didn't go out of my way to buy some, do you know how expensive it is?!

Anyway, i did a bit of research and found this........

Seems that stainless steel is a viable alternative, as long as you don't have to pay for it!

well its 4 times more expensive than mild steel.

the difference in composition could cause accelerated corrosion in the long run.

accelerated corrosion if left to the elements. If i prep it properly it will be fine, i've welded exhuasts up with stainless steel filler rod with no problems. i didn't realise it was four times as expensive, good job it's free then!
