A mate of mine always reckoned that if you wanted to get old, you
had better get lucky. Looks like you have.
On the subjuct of hose failures, I hate it when you can no longer
trust a favoured brand.
I replaced all the fuel hoses on my 7, when I was restoring her. It
took a bit of searching to find some Gates hose, but worth it, I
thought, as there has been some dodgy petrol hose around. This
stuff had Gates printed in white along the hose.
Less than 2 years later, when I opened the shed door I was almost
knocked over by the smell of petrol. The hose on the supply side of
the fuel pump had split, & 20 litres or more had flooded the place.
I found all the hoses had radial cracks , many almost right through,
but the hose was still shiny, & the cracks only showed, when you
bent the bent the stuff quite tightly.
The left over hose, in the spares box was fine, so the problem was
caused by the petrol.
I don't know if the hose was counterfeit "Gates", or if Gates had
some cheep stuff made in you know where, but if you have used some,
check it out.
