Yes jclay, what I was saying, by "poms in drag" was that although
Kiwis, [New Zealandres], live down here, near Oz, it's no good them
trying to pretend to be a people of the romantic south pacific.

In Oz the english folk are known as poms, & when they have migrated
to Oz, often as winging poms, due to the tendency for some of them
to winge that everything in Oz is not as good as home, [pommy land,
or england].

Now, these kiwis, are often even more english, than thoes who live
there, so Poms dresses up to pretend they are something else.

Having now made that as clear as mud, I'm sure, I'll try to come up
with a few more for you.

I have a mate from Greece who learn't his way around the english language and humour by watching endless box sets - his favourites were Blackadder and Fawlty Towers - only fools and horses was helpful too.

Have you ever clicked on a topic, then immediately slapped you hand and threw the mouse across the room because you knew your weren't suppose to be there?

No?

Well, that is the way I feel right now! I feel like the little boy who gets called on by the teacher and he doesn't know the answer, all the kids just laugh and laugh and laugh!! [:D]

That OK! I'm a big boy! I'll just go sit in the corner with my dictionary and diet root beer![^]

Stupid topic.

Jclay, it works the other way too mate.

I gave my son, in the Oz navy, a set of CDs, with 4 series of
Mc Hales Navy for Christmas.

After getting over the shock that TV was once in black & white, he &
his navy mates loved them. Reckons it is much like the RAN, [Royal
Australian Navy] today.

Had a few questions on language, asking if it was old navy speak. Or
US speak.

I have sailed all round the Solomons, & much of New Guinea, where
all that patrol boat [PT boat in US] stuff took place during WW11.
For some it was hell, but I'd really have loved it, with someone
else, [the government] paying for the fuel.

I reckon I found the spot, where JFK got ashore with his boys.

I'm sure it's all the english (and Australian) TV programs we get on the PBS type channels. My wife loves watching them. We are after all bilingual in Canada if not French and English then at least American and English.[:D]
