Wow! That's certainly an impressively built up car.

I note it is advertised as a TR8, which of course it is not - a TR7V8 maybe, but not a TR8.

And is it just me who thinks it is a great shame that such an early TR7, apparently a factory press car & arguably historically important in TR7 terms, has been converted into something so utterly different from original?

I am sorry but to my mind the investment in that car would have been better spent restoring it to as close to original as possible. After all, it is not that hard to find a decent FHC shell to convert to rally spec, but I doubt that ACG7 could ever be put back to original spec now - lowered floors, stitched in roll cage etc.

Nice car but shame about the loss of such an early example.

tony.....when you get the yellow one? and are you up at stoneleigh this year? and agree with you about the car, i know its like the pot calling the kettle black you will say as mine will not be stock but its also not an historically important car, some limited edition models and the like should be kept as original as possible...

but would have the engine if he did change it back...........[:p] and did i see corsa power steering......... mmmmmmmm will that work..... i need to look under a few corsa bonnets.....

Sadly can't make Stoneleigh this year, will be spending the weekend at a meeting for a charity I work for[:(]

I must have a word with them about the timing of future meetings ...

The yellow car is ACN01080, factory built fuel injection development car that I bought last summer but only recently back on the road after a major mechanical overhaul. Looking forward to bringing her to a few events this year[:)]

Cannot remember exactly, isn't this ACG 6?

It's a fact that early cars often survive simply because of the fact that they were developed for competition. Not sure if this is the case here but it's survival now is ensured (unless it's totalled of course)... Angry looking beast!

Dave.

The Corsa steering will work as it is used a lot in the Escort rally cars.
You wont find it under the bonnet though, it is mounted directly to the steering column inside of the car.
It can be found on the Corsa 'C' model, if you are in any scrapyards pick one up for me as well.

Hi Beans the Group 4 rules for rallying said that the spring position had to remain original. You were however allowed to add extra springs. This is what the Escorts did with there 5 link rear suspension. Usually the standard spring is replaced with a very soft spring that is of no real use other than to fullfill the rule requirments. Doesnt appear to be the case in this one.It apperars that it has been built to suit the rules in england but not a true historic rally car.

I have an article in a UK mag from just after they caned the rally program. It is an interview with the development engineer and he outlines some of the changes they had planned for the next season. Revised dash to move driver forward, coil over rear shocks, bigger brakes and 15" wheels to accomodate them and allow a better choice of tyres.

It does however sound like it would bring a smile to your face to drive that car.[:D]

Cheers Troy

Sounds plausible indeed [;)] untill I read this in the cars description

Judging from the picture of the front suspension he clearly doesn't know what compression struts are [}:)]
Nevertheless an interesting car which could be great fun indeed [:)]

It Appears that the front sway bar has been replaced with tension rods or radious rods. cant tell what is being used as a sway bar.

Steve, ACG6 is registered KDU367N and is sprint engined, I think it's for sale somewhere at the moment for around £15000.

I'm intrigued what the registration is for this car as it probably is in the same KDUxxxN batch.

Yes, that is what I was thinking... the above pic was taken at Stoneleigh 2007 when it was for sale at £7995.

ACG6 registered KDU367N is now in the US and there was some effort in getting it into the Targa Newfoundland but as far as I know it has not. I love how a converted TR7 all of a sudden becomes a TR8 and when they are for sale typically are listed as TR8s and rarely a TR7V8 or "TR8 Conversion" which is nore correct. A VIN tells the whole story!
