Floor pan holes

Postby macmattom » 30 Dec 2009 18:43

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">I have the carpet out of my car at the minute (well - three years nearly!) and was wondering if the holes in the floor plan are meant to be left unobstructed to act as a water outlet or if they should be blocked with a gromet.

I have added a couple of pictures to show the driver's side, but there are also some on the passenger side.

Thanks,

Mac.

One of them looks like the holes for the seat frame mountings but it's been a while since I looked under my carpet.

I'd fit the grommets unless you have refitted the moulded carpet. (unlikely) I drove without the floor grommets in heavy rain and water came up through the floor. Damp carpet doesn't smell too nice. Then again my 7 still smells of waxoyl. If you're worried about moisture with grommets fitted you can always lift up the carpet section to check periodically.

I never bothered with the grommets in spare wheel well. There's nothing for moisture to soak into and it flows out again.

Having stripped out two shells this year, those holes were in the floor of both of them - don't have a use so no idea why they are there!? (being a BL car probably water outlet)

Not sure where the bottom one is but the top picture, the hole is under soundproofing so would effectively be covered by it. The only other holes are the four bolt hole for the inside of the seat mounts so would be filled with seat mounting bolts (these may be what you are showing in the bottom picture.

If the holes are visible from beneath fit a grommet, if they are above a box section leave them open.

There are 4 holes in the floor you should plug with a grommet.
All are near the large big holes (two in the footwells two near rear bulkhead)

And a picture of the holes in the front area of the floor. Two small holes that need a grommet here are just visible to the inside of whre in my case th elarge holes used to be ...
