Actually the Beetle isn't rounded enough for me. I want a body kit that turns the car into a perfect sphere.

I'm seriously just shaking my head here. I'll chalk up everyone's lack of reding comprehension to inhaling too many exhaust fumes.

Let's review:

I accept that everyone here likes the looks of the TR7. However I do not. I've apologized for that.

I purchased the car because it was $200, and at the time I didn't care about looks. Now that I've finished improving the car's performance, I DO care about looks. Yes, I changed my mind.

There are such things as body kits that can completely change the look of a car, which would be easier than me building an entire new car. We would all agree that body kits DO exist, yes? I figured "The Best TR7 Forum on the net" would be the place to ask about a body kit for my TR7. Seems logical, yes?

...speaking of changing my mind, I've done it again. I no longer want rounded. I've decided I like the fugly angular look of this car. In fact, I want to accentuate it. Please someone tell me where I can find a body kit to turn my car into a cube or triangle of some sort.

I eagerly await more of your well thought out responses.

You do not need to apologize for not liking the look of the car buzzbomb, it is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Don`t know why you think they are slow if you have a Chevy motor in it.

Your selection of body kits is severally limited.

We have seen some very unusual body modifications from time to time, though. There was one about a year ago that was an all steel creation with a very strange rear end. The there is the TR40 kits, like the one on eBay now.

Here is one that was different.

B Squared,

The car belongs to you and it is yours to do as you wish. This forum is used by people all over the world with one thing in common, TR7s & 8s. Some are very liberal in their thinking and other can be very conservative. But remember, we own them because of our love/hart relationship with them. Our cars have been ridiculed since the day they rolled off the production line. You would think that we would have developed a thick skin by now, but sometimes it wears a little thin.

I just hope you have fun with your 7/V8, and remember, most people don't even know what the heck it is!

Whoa! That B squared is...something else!

Hey, I totally get what you're saying - and I'm not dumb enough to think that I could come on a TR7 forum and say I didn't like the looks without getting at least a little bit of crap. I get it, I get it - and I'm not here to start trouble.

Aside from the scholarly posts like "U WULDNT BELEEVE MY BIG ENGIN!!!!1" I've pretty much gotten the answer I was looking for; that there really isn't a drastic body kit out there for the TR7. I'm going to surmize there isn't a body kit for them because there are so many die hard enthusiasts like the people on this site that love and cherish these cars, and keep them on the road with their sweat and time.

Really, guys - I get it. Just a difference in opinion, that's all.

I'm going to do a few last things to the car over the next few weeks, then sell her on Craigslist. Who knows, maybe I'll regret it later, and ten years from now see a wedgie an wish I had held onto this one.

Thanks for all your help.

Buzz-

I know where your coming from on this topic. The TR7 is a love it or hate it opinion. I work with Tim Lanocha that has the Group 44 Kit for the TR7/8. The deal with the kit is it is more functional the style even though an artist created the look and from that drawing the panels were made less the nose which is from an IMSA Porsche of the day. Tim's wedge has the chevy V8 in it and I agreed with him on the project that why not keep it in there since he bought it already done. The car is disgustingly fast and he has yet to really push it in the 1/4 mile. He has only been between 1/2 and 3/4 throttle. With his kit the "swage" line is left only on the door which if you know a good body guy can be smoothed out and that will disappear.

Personally it took knowing there was a Rover V8 in the TR7 to grow to appreciate them and the rarity of the TR8. I have no issue with someone who want to make one faster or look they way they want too. Look at all the fieros.....how many of those are left? Anyway my point of view is there are soo many TR7s left here in the North America that if I had a choice of parting one out or turning it into something other than what it was originally, keeping them on the road comes first then parting from this earth second.

I would love to put a Chevy LSX series engines iron block or aluminum or the R07 in a TR7 coupe and just cruise around!

Michael, you might be my long lost twin. Funny you should mention the LS1 engine - I have a line on one for around 2k (what I am hoping to sell my TR7 for) and I've already got a donor S-10 frame. I'm thinking maybe I'll try to find a Mk II Spitfire or something, and cram it in there. My buddy and I are finalizing plans for that this Sunday.

I guess this forum is not the appropriate place for this, but I just signed up on the British V8 forums, which seem to have a TON of info on this. I'm sure I'll see you over there.

Buzz,

Ive been there and done that with the wedges and still I feel that there is a muscle car guy inside me just waiting for prices to fall back to where it is a lifestyle and not a bank account. I am also on the British V8 forum too. They will chop up anything to get a different engine to fit! I do appreeciate the stock TR7/8, modified and wild ones so I have a taste for them all. Good luck with your project(s)!

I know, I know - I'll probably be shot for saying something like that here. Just being honest. I've got the car running like I want, now it's time to make it look like I want. And I don't want the wedge.

Anyone wanna buy it so I can get a rustbucket TR2 or something? And of course, rape that one, too [}:)]
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

I'd ask how come you can be honest & we can't? A little diplomacy goes a long way. We meet people every day who don't like the TR7 & it rarely ends in a shouting match - drag races are more common! Its just human nature 101.

Now then, don't you think that the F40 kit would be right up your street? It would take an expert to recognise the wedge in that.

What about the Grinnall with the rounded front? Someone should be able to provide a link or picture.

Paul

PS I didn't particularly like the look of the TR8 when I first bought one. I lusted after an MGB V8 and couldn't see hacking up two cars to make one. However after owning six different TR8s, the shape has become a favourite.

Buzz,
I've never really been a big fan of these wedge shape cars. They seem a little cheaply made and a little too odd looking for me. But my bother-in-law had one he bought for about $250. The car had sat for 13 years in the grass. My bother-in-law never did much of anything with it. He tried to start it but the wiring was bad and the starter wouldn't spin. He pull-started it, but it ran real bad. The vacuum hoses and wires were pretty much rotted out. Besides, I'm sure the gas in the tank was bad as well. I was surprised it ran at all.
He brought it back to my store and parked it out front for sale. The car looked pretty good. Not much rust, but just old and faded. But, when you pull the carpet back you could see another story. The floors were full of rot and holes from sitting in the grass for so many years.
Every day I would come into work and see that sad old wedge sitting there. Somehow, over time, it began to grow on me. It didn’t look so bad. Maybe with a good cleaning, a little TLC, and maybe even a paint job; the car could be kinda fun. Well, as luck would have it – some guy came along and wanted the car. Suddenly, I felt jealous…. I wanted it!
Fortunately for me (maybe), the deal fell through and I traded my bother-in-law a riding lawn mower for the car.
So, now I’m the proud owner of a rusty wedge – that I never liked to begin with. I tried explaining that to my wife as I was pushing it into my garage. She just couldn’t see the humor in the smelly old rusty car.
Now, I’ve have the body spinning on a rotisserie and a Buck V6 all shinny and waiting patiently on an engine stand.
I once had 17 VW beetles including one that I was installing a Dodge 440 with dual quads. I understand power and round vs wedge. But, honestly, give the car a chance. I bet if you sell it, you’ll watch it leaving the driveway and get this little ache in the pit of your stomach and think – maybe I should have kept it…it’s not so bad!
My two cents – have fun if you keep it – or make sure somebody enjoys the wedge.
