New Tr7 in the Garage

Postby Orange Rag » 17 Nov 2009 05:53

After finishing the orange rag my son decided he wanted a FHC to convert to a rally car. Found this green FHC in Vancouver, it had been sitting in storage for about twenty years. No rust but brakes needed rebuilding and we replaced the bushings with poly and freshened the paint. We ended up spending more than our budget (no surprise) but the car runs and looks great. Now that it's put away for the winter he has bought an Audi GT Coupe and that will be the rally car (the TR looks to good to beat up on). We will do some fine tuning on both cars this winter and be cruising in style next year.

Looks nice!
Is that a silver back panel, or white?

Hey Orange,

My brother has the same filter on his wife's TR7v6. He did a modification to make the Plenum fit. http://forum.britishv8.org/read.php?3,10675

The car came originaly Blue with green interior, the original owner painted it what I would say a close copy of triton, by the time the paint shop had tried to match it, it was slightly off that. We get alot of positive comments on the color, I would call it two shapes off tridon. The car only had 52,000 miles on it so we thought the paint would be easy to touch up but as the body shop started work on it the paint came off in sheets, so had to be taken down to metal and start over, at that point we thought about going back to blue but we liked the green so went back that way with a nice metallic, looks great in the sun.
We also had thought about up sizing the wheels but we like the wheels that came with it, (they're Cosmic a dealer installed option), so we just cleaned them up and put on new tires, it really drives strait with no vibrations. We did replace the springs with 200's and new KYB shocks (that rear shock at with gas tank filler hose is tricky).
The white rear panel is a good match to the sunroof with a red and white pin stripe around it, after changing the plate frame to silver (still black in this picture) it looks very sharpe. We thought about a white victory stripe but it looks very clean as it is so will leave well enough alone.
The plenum fits on the orange one but I never put in on since hardly ever drive with top up and there are very little fumes if any. We are going to change to a high rise intake this year and use a remote air filter for cool air. More power is always better.

The roof came white, (not sure if it's stock that way) so that's why we did rear panel to match.
We do like to be different.

I've commented on this fhc before actually (you can thank F1Syder [;)])

forget what beans says (he's too tritionized as of late [:p]) , I love the white rear panel (nice change from boring black) and must admit love the 2 shades off triton much bettter than the original!!!! [8]

IMHO, white rims would be real sweet

Ron.

Yes I did pre-empt Orange Rag by showing the car before, can't remember the reason (do I need one?) as he showed it at a few cars shows in the summer/fall. Having seen it in the flesh my comments were: Initially the white rear panel looked like an unpainted primer but the red pin stripe (that doesn't show up in the picture) sets it off and it is different than what one expects and it does grow on you. As for Beans: well in this case he is splitting a split hair.[:D]
