nhra drag racing wheel base rules

Postby roadstar707 » 16 Nov 2009 15:18

this is how the nhra wheel base rule reads
MINIMUM 90 INCHES,UNLESS CAR HAS ORIGINAL ENGINE IN ORIGINAL LOCATION AND IS SHORTER THAN ORIGINAL,OR NOTED IN CLASS REQUIERMENTS.

SO AS IT READS ANY ONE WHO RACES HIS TR7 WITH A DIFFERNT ENGINE FROM ORINIGAL CANNOT RACE AT A NHRA CERT. TRACK. IF YOU DO HOPE THEY DONT CHECK WHEEL BASE AND FIND OUT THAT IT IS 5 INCHES TO SHORT. SO GOOD LUCK . THE NHRA TECH # IS626-914-4761.

Here is the issue with the rule as I interpret it at first glance; what is the definition of “originalâ€￾ is this based on the manufacturer of the automobile and as manufactured? Sounds like a TR8 with and original engine a rover V8 in the original location is not an issue and not shorter than 85-inches “originalâ€￾ wheelbase unless it is overridden in the class requirements to be more than 85-inches as a minimum than your good. Sounds like you need to find a TR8 donor and use your body shell.

Point to carry with you is a much more nasty and beastly car raced in numerous NHRA classes back in the 1960ies.....it had a small block 289 ci Ford V8, 83.5-inch wheel base, around 2,000lbs stock and was known as a TVR Griffith.

If the issue is being a TR8, Just buy some decals. I seriously doubt anyone at NHRA has a database with Wedge Car VIN#s Of course if someone starts questioning, they could do research I suppose. All this fuss over a bracket car? Wow, they must be strict.
