Thanks Stevie - bit too drastic! It's not that my brakes heat up/fade - in fact they work slightly better when pre-warmed - it's just lack of initial 'bite'. But as you know - they use the same pads as the Mini - and the Austin 1100 - so it's not surprising they are a bit feeble!

An update

I stripped the discs off the other day this photo you can see the wheel spacers

Image

I have now got the hub stripped down and off the car

released the 4 hex bolts attaching the disk to the hub conversion

removed the old disk

cleaned the hub spacer to get good contact with the new disc

and this one the you can see the components to be removed (ford Capri 2.8 i discs and calipers)

Image

This is the hub off the car you can see the 4 hex bolts and the aluminum conversion spacer

Image

Now the bad bits

The new disks did not fit the centre hole was about 1 to 2mm to small to fit ...

at the moment they are at my mates work getting the hole enlarged to make it fit

will put up a photo of the completed disc when finished

Hiya.

Out of interest what is the diameter that you have had to open the disc out to?

Cheers,

Shaun.

I think that depends very much on the outer diameter of the conversion spacers rim.
I have steel spacers (from S&S) with a rim that is much thinner than Stevie's.
So no need to machine the discs.

It is the diameter of this part that is getting altered on the disc

the hole on the disc is just to small by about 1 or 2mm

OK got discs back

the centre hole is now a nice fit (now 72mm)

Question the centre bolt should be 5 lb f ft

but my torque wrench only goes down to 22.1 lb f ft

what is the best way to tighten up the nut so I know all is good

Never use a torque wrench for the front bearings.
Always tighten the nuts up, while rotating the hub/disc
When you feel that rotating the assembly needs more force you are there.
It’s all a matter of feeling [;)]

Thanks Beans

Will give that a go

According to Haynes you tighten it up to 5 lb fft

then turn it back one flat of the nut.

Steve

Just to clarify on what you have done here. You purchased the EBC rotors, part # GD200, for the stock TR7 setup.

Where did you get the spacer to make up the difference between the stock rotor and the EBC rotor? If you made these can you provide the demensions?

Since you already had the Capri calipers installed, did you have to make any adjustment to them for the increased size of the vented rotors?

Looks good so far, please keep us updated on the how they work once finished.
