Oh, the weather guy backed me up on the rain. He said that it not only was the wettest weekend of the summer it was the wettest Labor Day weekend on record. Oh boy was it ever fun. [:D] I think that I am still a bit waterlogged.

Jim, I'm very glad you decided to replace those tyres. I have been
debating with myself, about stucking my 2 bobs worth in, but now I
don't have to resist.

I had some mint, but 11 year old Bridgestones on the back of my 7. I
loved them. The rubber had hardened as it aged, so they had much
less grip, than the new tyres on the front. With this combination I
could actually power slide the 7, & the thing was great fun.

Then I found myself cruising down a new, very smooth highway, in the
wet. Twice, while just trundling along at traffic speed, with little
throttle, the rear end just came round on me. The first time I
thought oil perhaps, but when it happened again, with no other cars
having any problems, I thought tyres.

My tyre bloke confirmed that there had been a number of big crashes,
on that road, in the wet, being attributed to old tyres, which have
lost their grip. They are not suitable for the very smooth road,
when wet.

With the rough country roads, where I live, no problem, but some of
these beaut new materials they use on main roads today, require good
rubber when wet.

With new tyres, I can no longer power slide the 7, [power? 7?], & I
do miss my bit of fun, but I just may stay on the road.

Well, I haven't actually replaced my tires, yet. Last TR replaced his. His were older than mine. I didn't drive in the wet at all other than to go from the campsite to the show field, about a quarter of a mile in first gear. The tire shop said that the tires look okay. Yes, I'll take that with several grains of salt. The tires seem to grip well on dry pavement and since the season is almost over I'm going to wait till spring to take care of them. I want to get at least done with the body work and paint this winter. Then get a new top and tires in the spring. The interior may have to wait until next winter.

Yeah, I'm happy I replaced my tires even though it was not in the budget. I'm putting on hundreds of highway miles this week and it's one less thing to worry about.

It was great meeting FISpider and Spectatohead. We didn't get to take our tour together because of the rain, but it was fun anyway.

The all Triumph race was pretty cool. Kastner's coupe and a very fast TR6 diced it out for the entire race, with the coupe apparently just nipping the 6 at the end. (The PR system was not loud enough to hear; I haven't looked at the ABFM web site to see if they have results up yet.) I think I got some pretty good pictures, and will post a few to my album when I get home next week.

Unfortunately, in the medium/big bore race Sunday, another TR6 apparently dumped the contents of its crankcase on the track. A couple of Corvettes spun off course and the race was stopped to clean up the track. There were no wedges in any of the races; SOVREN, the sponsoring body, considers them to be too late-model.

I just checked the people's choice awards and FI Spyder took third place in the TR7/8 class. His car is very nice. I didn't recognize the names for the TR8s that came in first and second. It seems like all things being equal a 8 will beat an equally nice 7. Several of the cars there were fairly nice but their engine bays weren't as clean as mine. I think that once I have the paint and interior up to snuff I'd have a chance at taking one of theses awards.

After getting Oz's weather for all summer we get UK weather for the labour Day weekend( ABFM Portland). Got up at 3:00am to catch ferry to states (Port Angeles), rained on the way down but good in the afternoon. Next morning cool and spitting on the way to Evergreen Aviation Museum. Hot in afternoon. Saturday the day of carshow it poured rain till noon then cleared up. Sunday it rained through the swapmeet (autojumble) and through out the racing in the afternoon that I watched with LastTR. Monday it was raining so I headed back to Vancouver to visit family.

Although the weather was challenging, I met some great people from our forum known to us as Spectatohead and Last TR. Talked to a lot of interesting people including a gentleman with the TR3 race car seen in slideshow who knew Kas Kastner and is mentioned on one of Kas's seven books on Racing Triumphs in America. Below is a link the slideshow of the trip.

Yah, we 7's don't stand a chance against an 8 even a FI seven unless clearly it's condition is above an 8. I did beat out all but one 8 at 2007 ATDI in Steveston but it had $30,000 spent on it.

Round trip was 900 miles or 1500 km. Who was it that was scared to take their TR a few miles to the show? oh, that would be you nick.[:I]

Great pictures FI Spider! I mistakenly described the 250K as a coupe in a previous post. It clearly is an open car; in spite of having seen the car at several events, my faulty memory keeps telling me it's a coupe.

On our way back north from my father's 90th birthday party in Roseburg on Tuesday, my brother-in-law's Midget suffered a malfunctioning clutch in Eugene. At four in the afternoon, the Sports Car Shop immediately took Gary's car in, put it on the hoist, determined that something had apparently stuck temporarily but that there was no damage, and sent him on his way without charging him a penny. We were very impressed. And I got a picture of the Midget in the shop next to the Healey Streamliner that was featured at the ABFM. I'll post it after I get back to Anchorage.
