Factory leather trim?

Postby 233sqn » 19 Aug 2009 12:15

Hello....

I am a newbie.... great to see the TR7 finally being recognised for the great car it is!!

I hope to return to the fold soon having been TR-less for about 20 yrs whilst we had kids and did all those "normal" things, but back in the 70's & 80's I had 4 FHCs and 1 DHC at different times.

Im curious however about my first TR7, an Inca Yellow FHC, TKN 668R, purchased in about '78. It was odd in that it had a fatory leather interior (in dark green...looked better that it sounds!!) I was told it was of 5 special commisions .. anyone ever seen a similar one?? does it still exist?

rgds to all

Sounds interesting, I've never heard of "factory" leather on TR7s, but I'm sure John Clancy or Chris Turner will be along shortly to correct me. [8D]

Nope, not heard of a leather interior. But having said that, if someone came along and said I'll have 5 TR7's providing you put a leather interior in there's no way the customer would be turned away. On top of that the experimental department were always up to something so undoubtedly leather would have been applied at some point.

Aren't the TR7 seats the same as the Jag XKE seat frames? With the only difference being the material (leather vs. cloth/velour). Is it possible someone put an XKE leather seat cover set on your car and just called it "factory or dealer installed" leather seats. The XKEs seats were available in a pea green leather and were also a BL product.

I'd never heard of this but they certainly look similar...
