Hi,

Maybe these sites that I had bookmarked could be helpful.

I've used the NF auto people a few times.

Thanks Adam, I've had a look and quite like the MX5 type as advertised on ebay.

I have been checking out the rear of the car and was thinking as an alternative about putting a light next to the number plate (or maybe one either side). This will laso be the easiest option to mount by quite a long way. I'm thinking about the surface mounted rectangular ones, approx 130mm x 50mm, mounted with the long axis vertical. They will be 100mm minimum away from the rear lights, but is there a requirement about distance from the number plate? I reckon I'll have about 50mm clearance.

I don't know what it'll look like, but does anybody have any photos so I can see what they'll look like or do any of you have any thoughts about the aesthetics?

I'm not committed either way, but ease and cost will also play a part along with looks, so I'm caught in a bit of indecision at the moment.

I've mocked a primitive picture with MS Paint to give an idea.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mac.

If its not a legal requirement why bother. Its not as though our cars are used in really bad weather anyway. I dont have them on my 1977 FHC and its never been a problem.

Appreciate the point Chris, but I'd like the option to drive the car whenever, regardless of the weather. I hope my car will be an all-year-round car; only time will tell how I end up using it.

I'm tempted to change the right hand reversing lamp to a red bulb and just change the wires over. That way I keep the shape of the car and the bodykit, and if I decide to ever change it back it'll just be a case of reconnecting a cut wire. I'm slightly concerned about the legality of the set-up so will keep all my options open for now.

Cheers anyway,

Mac.

Have to agree with Chris here.
Best solution would have been to blend them into the rear bumper/spoiler. But as the car's been painted that will be tricky.

Anyting put in between the rear lights will spoil the rear end.

If you insist on a rear fog light, changing one of the reversing lights should be the way to go i.m.h.o. (don't know if that's legal in the UK)

Oh and the car looks rather nice. Red combines very well with this type of body kit (have to admit that I am not a big fan of body kits on TR7's [:I]. Luckily taste is very personal [;)])

That's the way I'd go too. As it's not a legal requirement to even have one at all, then you don't really need to worry about sticking to the letter of the law - although you might find yourself in the slightly bizarre position of having to remove the switch so Mr MOT doesn't find it and fail you for a non-compliant foglight!

Thanks for all your suggestions, guys. Still not decided on a final option, so will probably get the car through the MoT then convert the drvrs side reverse light as an interim measure. I'll just wait until I see something I like (and can afford) or convert back to having no lights, but I like the idea of not being rear-ended by some speed freak so will probably put something on.

Thanks again for all your advice, it's given me plenty of food for thought.

Cheers,
