New Wedgehead...

Postby GSCReno » 04 Aug 2009 04:19

Hi guys... My name is Scott, and I am a Triumph addict.[8D] I have been involved in the LBC hobby for 25 years or so, but these are my first Wedges. I have 2 1980 TR7 Spiders; VIN# TPVDJ8AA400986, and; TPVDJ8AA400497. Back in March, I found the pair on Craigslist for $150.00. One (#986) has a good body and interior. The other (#497) had a useable power unit. The package also came with a spare 5 speed 'box and a good engine block. I'm real sure that alot of questions are forthcoming... Please be patient with me, fellow Wedgeheads. Cheers, Scott

Good luck with the project Scott.

My present 7 grew out of the purchase of 2 wrecks.

It took a year, but it has now done close to 50,000Km.

It's probably cheeper to buy one going car, but not as much fun.

Welcome and congradulations on what sounds like a great deal. I always liked the spyders...they scare the heck out of the GF. [}:)] You can't even buy a decent pedal bike for 150 bucks![;)]
Keep us posted ...pictures would be great. [:D]

Hello again, Scott!
Always enthused to have another Spider (in this case 2!) around! This is THE best forum to help answer any questions you will have--these folks are fantastic! --Monica VIN # TPVDJ8AA401026

BTW, Just wondering...will you be combining both cars to create 1 driver or will you be trying to salvage both?

Welcome to the collective Scott! Bring on the questions, sometimes you get the answer you need and some time you get too much info but,you always get an answer. The only dumb question is the one that you have and don't ask. I too am just a little south of you on US 395 in SOCAL.

As a side note. I'm really happy to see more US members here. Not because it really matters where we are from either. It's just that the Wedge cars have historically been shunned in the US. For a long time they have been considered not much more than orphan used cars and not very good ones at that. It's refreshing to see interest growing in saving and restoring them as they should be. As an old antique dealer once said "They don't make these no more"

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. And that includes you, Monica. I hope you're not offended at being lumped in with the guys.[;)] I'm kind of pirating stuff off of #497 to revive #986. That said, if I could find a set of DHC doors, I might take a shot at saving it as well. The shell is so totally rust free that I hate to scrap it. I have also been offered a 1981 DHC sans engine/gearbox for $150.00. Very nice body, silver with black graphics and a blue interior. According to Rimmer Bros. it was one of the last 200 or so built. And as my lovely bride of 18 years has laid claim to #986 (His name is become Harley), I find myself looking for a Wedge for me. The problem as I see it, is the availability of 2 liter FI engines. I'd take on that '81 in a heartbeat if I thought I could find an engine. Sorry for rambling... Cheers, Scott

Welcome to the website. Your moving in the right direction. (Can't have too many TR7's). Here's a picture of my $100 TR7 (on the left). I hope to have more time to strip it down for painting now that my deck is nearing completion, (after I paint the rails of back deck, and paint the doors stored in the garage to clear them out and after I ....)
