Brits on the Beach 2009

Postby FI Spyder » 21 Jul 2009 03:37

Well we've had our 9th annual club show (Brits On The Beach) for 2009 and it was our most successful yet with over 200 cars and bikes, perfect weather, good music and a good time was had by all. Ron (Orange rag) was there with his son's TR7 coupe, fresh out of the paint shop the day before. 7 TR7's and 1 TR8 (the most we've had). I forgot to take a picture of my Spider but we've seen it before. Here's a few pict's and a link to slideshow of the rest:

That looks like a lot of fun. I went to something in Victoria over 20 years ago where the marques were all mixed up like that. My TR6 was parked between a large Rover saloon from the 60s and a newer Jag. It was interesting to talk to the owners of non-Triumphs for a change of pace. Where was this show? In BC somewhere? I'll definitely have to try to make it next year.

Spectatohead (if I may call you that...)

Are the rear flares on your car fully radiused or standard shape with the slightly squared off top edge?

once again great job on sharing the event with us, Spyder!!
(guess it's you guys out west, who got all the sun this year......)

some really interesting versions of paint treatments on the wedges, I really like the white rear taillamp panel on the fhc!!
I also love the black TR7 dhc (why was this never offered as regular production we'll never know,eh) , seeing a dolomite was a treat, too!!!

Ron.

Following silverseven, is the rear section white or silver?

Sorry I missed the event this year. It's good to see it went off well.My wife was so put off by the fleabag hotel we stayed in last year that she didn't want to go. I had planned on coming myself via the Tsawassen-Duke Point ferry but there were no early sailings. sigh*
Maybe next year,

Rich
BTW: Were The Sofa Kings the band this year?

Rich: No Sofa Kings, we had one of the members as DJ this year. As for lousy hotel there are a lot of B&B's around which is the way to go around here. 5:15am and 7:45am ferries daily to Duke Point????? Sorry you couldn't make it. Maybe next year you can stay at the Spyder Luxury Hotel [:)][:)]

jclay/tr8: The rear is white to match the top.

silverseven: Yes we got all the sun this year (sorry) [8D]. The black dhc was a respray from original colour of blue. The Triton green FHC was a dealer respray to sell it off the showroom when new(by request of the buyer I assume) from blue. The Dolomite is from Switzerland by way of New York as they were't imported here (two known to be in BC.)

Spectatohead: You're probably refering to Picnic in the Park in Victoria if it was in May, Fort Rod Hill if in September. Brits on the Beach is the third sunday in July in Ladysmith about 45 miles north of Victoria.

Craig, yes you may call me that, but I also respond to "Jim" and some other things I'd rather not say. If you mean rounded all the way by fully radiused, yes they are. I bought the car like this. The flares appear to be done in Bondo as they are cracking at the top and will have to be re-done. I do like the shape though. I was thinking about going to a hot-rod shop and seeing if they could re-do them in lead. I'm at work right now but my weekend starts at 8am. I'll see about getting some close up shots of the flares and post them.

Frank, the wheels were a BBS copy of sorts made by a company called Epsilon. I don't think that they are still in business. I'm not familiar with the term PCD, but if it has to do with the wheel lugs, they are standard TR7/TR8 spacing. The tires are 205/50 15 on the front and 225/50 15 on the back.

I bought this car from a friend who had let it sit for 8 or 9 years. The top had shrunk enough that it wouldn't latch any more, so it sat outside, unprotected, with the top up but not latched. I've done a lot of cleaning, and rebuilt the front and rear brakes, and replaced the gummed up Holley with an Edelbrock. Replaced all of the hoses and belts and had to apply for a lost title. The car is running now, but I need to hunt down my buddy to get the title. Then the tires, which only had about 1,0000 miles on them when he parked it, need to be replaced as they are hard and dried out. Then a trip to the muffler shop to replace the rusted out tips on the Monza exhaust. Then I plan to drive it for the summer without a top. It is probably too late to make the NW All Triumph Drive In August 7-9 but I'll definitely be at the Portland All British field meet Labor Day Weekend. Then spend the winter working on the body, paint and interior.

Pictures of they way it looked when I bought it.

Spyder, thanks, it was the Picnic in the Park. Victoria is one of my favorite places. Too bad it's been over 20 years since I've been there. When the beastie is done I'll have to make an effort to get to both of these events.

I plan on being there with my Spider and Ron and his son will be there with either his Orange TR7 Buick V6 or his son's green and white coupe.
