Tom-
If you can find someone to make this, we would really have something.
I don't know if this software actually mimics how real tartans are made or not.
I went out to the garage and took some measurements on the car. Surprisingly, the pattern is not quite (close but not quite) in "round" English units (like 1/8 inches or 1/16 inches). It could be in 1/32 inches, but the tape measure I was using was not that accurate.
Starting with the widest red part (just over 1/2"), the measurements are approximately:
Red 11/16" (widest red)
Black < 1/16" (the tiny edges of the red)
Red 2/16" (tiny red edging)
Black 6/16"
Red 3/16"
Black 2.5/16"
Red 3/16"
Black 33.5/16" (widest black)
In the software, the only options are 1-10. If I make 33.5 = 10 then most of the others are too small to register on the scale. If I make 1/16" = 1, then the black is only about 1/3 as big as it should be.
Bottom line, I don't think this program can get much closer to our real pattern than I have presented above. Maybe these measurements can be used to get some fabric woven.
