Heater Console Graphics

A question from a new member came up yesterday. Does anyone know if there is a kit to redo the graphics/wording on the heater console?



It looks like the original factory work was silk screened onto the plastic.

I've not seen anything like that myself - and having painted my console to get rid of some scratches, I'm in need of a kit like that myself.

Screen printing is probably not going to be practical, but I'd imagine the graphics could be cut on vinyl, which would look quite acceptable. I'm not sure on the costs, but for something like this I'd imagine a printer would want a minimum print run of 100 or so, which would make it pretty expensive.

I wonder if it's worth getting a run made up for resale - does anyone think there's enough of a market?

ive dropped my console off prior to painting at local sign maker she tok trace and measure and is doing a vinyl label for me im having a couple done in case i cock up fitting i'll post results and could get more made. expensive part is the set up cost.

Here's something I cobbled together in Illustrator. I know it's black-on-white, but the cutter software will handle that. The defrost text doesn't look quite right either.



The only problem I can see is that it's rather small, which makes it difficult to weed (remove the unwanted vinyl around the letters). My wife will give it a go, though. An alternative for the lettering would be Letraset.

I don't know if Letraset is still available or any other rub off letters. I know that there was a dye-a-ble ColorKey many years ago, but that is probably gone by the wayside.

The main problem is lack of a good white ink for computer graphics as printing depends on the color of the paper for white.

Well, when I paint mine, I will probably just leave the control area black.

I masked mine off with masking paint/fluid intended for airplane models etc.
Then painted the console and 'scratched' the masking film off after the paint had dried.
Worked well for me...

I plan to cut it in vinyl using our Craft Robo cutter. This way, the colours don't matter so much as I can use white and red vinyl. The black in the graphic I created was just because it was easier.

It could be printed on clear vinyl using one of the vinyl printers they use for signwriting. They have white ink, but I suspect it wouldn't be economic, unless for larger runs, as those printers are designed for large format printing.I plan to cut it in vinyl using our Craft Robo cutter.
