T D Fitchett DO make the tanks for everyone else - and they are the cheapest supplier in my experience. I ordered one by phone - and it arrived next day - great service. I painted it before fitting as I thought the standard paint finish was a bit thin. Would advise you to do the same Steph! I hung it from a garage rafter by a cord - and painted it all around with brushing Hammerite.
Tank out doesn't make any great difference to suspension access - although quite a bit of it has to disconnected - if I was doing this again I would REMOVE the rear axle - rather tha struggle round it hanging down with almost all the bolts out anyway.
It is however a good chance to deal with any rust spots developing - and to spray on lashings of waxoyl.

Anybody ever heard of this:

http://www.gastankrenu.com/index.htm

They have a dealer in the UK. I was thinking about having them re-do the tank in my 7 as soon as I get up the nerve to try and take it out. Looks like it may be decent. There is a guy a couple hundred miles from me who gave me a phone estimate of around $200.00.

Exactly, fine for those old cars that don't have new tanks available but better to go new tank route if available.

Don't waste time/money on dubious tank sealing - just fit a new one. then you know it will be good for many years to come. Paint it before fitting!

Most likely, you will have to do a refurbished tank as new ones are not to be found in the US for early models like mine.I've heard RENU has a lifetime warranty and they have been around for a while so I feel better about that. Scott at Team Triumph has them. New tanks for the later models run about $500.00 USD from VB. Then you have to factor in the cost of shipping......I'll take the RENU one when it comes time.

I would have loved a new fuel tank, however, 6 years ago I was
quoted A$800 for a new one, X UK, or A$900 for a locally made alloy
tank. Shipping air, in the form of empty fuel tanks, around the
world, or even Oz, is very expensive is seems.

As there is only so much one can spend on an old car, I repaired the
old one. It's not that hard, if the rust is all internal.

If it is internal, it will be only in a narrow strip, across the
tank, at the bottom front, or it has been in all those I have worked
on, here in Oz. Cutting this out, & replacing with new
metal is much easier than many of the body repairs I see many of you
do on your cars. Some of you do things I can only dream of, so you
could this easily.

Just my two pence worth.

Indeed - if you have the welding skills to make a liquid tight repair - and take the necessary pre-weld precautions of course! - then that's exactly what I would do if the new tank here in the UK had not been quite 'reasonably' priced. I have welded a new base on a rotted/leaky sump (Fiat - not Triumph!) before now - and that worked very well. Morning's work saved over £60 pounds.
