gotta laugh realy

Postby nofinchance » 06 Jun 2009 07:06

Cuz if I don't I'm gonna cry.The numptee working on my car has had it 8 weeks now with many problems due to his poor customer service.I was promised my car for Friday 5th june so I go to get it and am told the garage is shut for two weeks as he is on his holidays! Unbeliveable.I have rung tradeing standards about this as enough is enough. They say to put all my problems in a letter to him and give him 14 days to put right and return the car.Not much help as he away for the next 14 days.I give up [V]

I am sure you will get a lot of sympathy here. Its guys like this (and there seems to be a lot of them) that give the garage trade a bad name. Initially spend a few hours listing the problems with a chronology of events, and post it through his door (maybe also by recorded delivery although he is not there to receive it). Its his problem if he is not there. Takes a few hours but it does help to get it off your chest! I found TS very helpful. Having given 14 days notice you can consider legal action with their advice. It is not too expensive to go to the small claims court and you get the costs back when you win. Does not help get the car back on the road but at least it might not cost you for his (useless) work.

Good luck.

Thanx for the support. What annoys me most is the garage advertises itself as a Triumph spares and restoration business. In a quote from 'the simsons comic book guy' WORST GARAGE EVER.I will send my complaints in the letter and see what happens.I was hoping to aviod any confrontations as the guy is abrasive anyway. My life was too simple before TR7s [;)]

I think perhaps you should have kept in closer contact with the garage - and not just blindly relied on getting it back on the date! But you do have all my sympathy - and be sure to extract the car at the first possible opportunity - and if possible (but not likely) without paying what I'm sure will turn out to be a massive bill!
I assume if folks wish to know the deatils of this wonderful garage - you will be happy to oblige via pm ??

The whole saga of this terrible experiance has been posted here to bore you all[:D].I gave my instructions to the guy in the begining and have been in touch constantly, this holiday thing is the last straw[:0].I named and shamed last week at the risk of repeating myself if you have lost the will to live and have time then look up my other posts[:D].

Hi Steph,
Bl88dy unbeleivable [:0] [:(!] Just cant beleive these cowboys get away with this behaviour!!!!
We have a consumer program on our local BBC radio station, they have amazing success with idiots like you are dealing with. Not sure how far a feild they deal with or have you something similar down your way [?]. Even dick heads like your 'specialist' can be shamed into doing the correct thing when confronted on the radio live to explain there cowboy anticts and the damage it can do to there buisness.
Good luck, anything i can do let me know,
KEEP THE FAITH [;)]
Cheers John

I hear ya Steph! Hope it works out for you [:)] (Kinda make me wonder which is worse...know how to repair your own car, but short on money and time neede to fix it, or have someone perform the work for you, and take their sweet time??)

I went thru a similar situation last year that really annoyed me. Wasnt a wedge but...took an engine to have machine work done for a proper rebuild. Instructed them on exactly I wanted and wanted done. In the end, it went 6-weeks longer than told (8 weeks total!) cost me twice as much as it should, and they did nothing I asked pretty much!!! Annoying and exausting, aint it!

Good luck, kill 'em with kindness but dont get taken!! [;)]

It's a nightmare 'windy one'.Not only is this guy sllooowww he has messed with my lights and now they don't rise "I'm not an auto electrician" he tells me.After weeks of messin he is leaving em raised[xx(].All I know is they worked fine when I took the car in.I wanted to know why the oil light wouldn't go out and he has messed to sort it I think and buggerd the lights somehow. The list goes on it is a farce. As with your engine rebuild the cost keeps rising. From "no more than 500 to about 1000 now[:(!].He can't trace why the oil light won't go out,the top hose still leaks and he has gummed up the fuel sender by pouring sealer into the tank. Now he is fitting a new tank witch is what I asked for at the start.I just want my car back. And my money would be nice too[:D]

Whoh, that would be my 'red-flag' right there. Could you find someone else that can do your repairs? Thats what I would do if I could, sounds like your gonna go on a downward spiral with this guy!!! [xx(]

Steph,
I wouldn't let him do ANY more work on your car. Trailer it away and let the work be seen by TS as it is!
It will make your case stronger IMHO.

exactly as the above reply, i would take my car back and never pay the bill. come on you asked for a simple repair and all you get is more trouble even things that worked are messed with.

Just as soon as he is back say that you want to pick up the car, repaired or not. Then he 'll aks about payment, you say that he needs to write you an invoice so you can pay it. You pick up the car, get the invoice in the mail that week and then you refuse to pay.
Otherwise he 'll hold the car there because he wants the payment before the car leaves.

Thankyou all for the advice.I was trying to avoid any nastyness as the whole thing has just stressed me.I have drafted my letter and will wait for the fall out[V].As for payment I payed half the esimated £500 up front as he said it was a big job and was worried I would not pay.I should have seen the writing on the wall then. The guy is supposed to be a specialist in triumphs so I trusted him in the begining. When I complained a week or so ago he said (quote)it's not his fault as TR7s are terrible cars anyway! He only took on the job as a favour and only works on heralds and dolomites realy.I think reporting to the authorities is my only option left.
