rimmer bros quick question

Hi all[:D] I e-mailed a purchase order to rimmer bros on sunday for a load of parts.I have not had an e-mail confirmation.is this normal do the bit's just arrive? Also does anyone else find there online ordering a bit slow as well as a confusing catalouge.For instance I needed a right side weatherstrip.The catalouge lists right and left under different part numbers.When you enter the no' it comes back as weatherstrip rh/lh .So did I order the right,right one? Also in the section for complete interiors it says 'note sunvisors are not included due to supplier problems' on another page the sunvisors are available in all colours.So what is it available or not? I am just crabby I suppose as I have had no confirmation of my order.

I have never found the online ordering system to be much good from Rimmers but then, I don't buy from them that much. Whilst they have a brilliant catalogue, their prices seem to be the highest in the industry. That, coupled with people on the end of the phone who really don't appear to understand the wants and needs of potential customers, keeps me away.
On the plus side, both Robsport and S&S Preparations give absolute personal care to their customers, they care who you are and what you want. Advice is freely given in plain English and their prices are the most competitive I have found.

I am sure I am not alone here.

No, you're not being crabby, good communication is important in any industry and just good manners when you are selling online.

Seldom use Rimmers but everything you say is correct [V] and NO you dont receive a comformation email. The weather strip, i assume you mean up against the window on the door frame [?] originaly two different parts ie one for n/s and one for o/s but now come in a lenght you cut to fit, did you order a the special tool to fit them [?] the clips can be somewhat of a pain in the ar53 to fit resulting in stabbed fingers, scratched paint, raised blood pressure, lots of swearing and a good stiff drink to cool down!
Rimmers catalogue is very good,credit where credit is due, but find dealing with S+S and Bobsport so much better, ie. they would suggest about the above tool when ordering the parts because they have done the job themselves and no doubt have the scars to prove it [;)]
I see S+S are redoing there site so hopefully be able order on line when up and running [?]

i use james paddock or robsport for parts but got the rimmer catalogue basically for the nice exploded diagrams to show what i'm missing.....

however on the odd occasion i have bought one or two items from rimmers theres no conformation, however if you have one of their catalogues they do tend to contact you if you dont order....

prime examples of robsport are in abundance on here, my example, noticed they had 2nd hand front suspension arms so mailed saturday evening to see if i was in time to chuck one in their van to collect at stoneleigh, got to the show, headed for the stall and was served by the guy who got my email, very very friendly people...

was in practical classics a while ago about rimmers collecting a huuuuuge amount of sd1 panels and parts up from africa or india so they prob have a good selection of parts for them.....

The reason why the SD1 boys like Rimmers is that they are THE only supplier for parts left!!!

Their India consignment recently stocked up the ailing partts catalogue but many of the SD1 parts are now no longer available. In cluidng as I found out this weekend, the pinion oil seal housing on the diff which is a real pig to get in and out without damage!

They have their spares day like our Stoneleigh event and its held in the car park of Rimmers!!!! Occasionally you find SD1 parts at autojumbles and as a Grinnall owner i'm always on the look out but we dont realise sometimes how spoilt we are in Triumph circles to have such a fantastic supply of parts and expertise.

They reimported all stock from India, Austin Rover sold it to the Indians to build SD1 out there but with a Standard Vanguard derived engine!! Did'nt exactly catch on! The Montego and Maestro went out there as well i seen to remember reading.

Hi wayne, just read your post,got one of those pinion seal carriers,off an SD1 axle (poss slight damage [:o)] ) will bring to Billing so you have a spare.Do grinnal still use the exstention housing on the axle [?] [?]

Yes indeed they use the SD1 pinion extension with then a very short sliding joint prop to join the rest of the distance to the gearbox. I have just had a new prop, bearing and extension shaft custom built and balanced by Bailey Morris Driveshafts, cost a fortune but hoping it wont rumble as much. Complete pig of a job getting the broacket in and out and I put a new pinion oil seal in only to find that even with a new seal the bugger still leaks!

That seal housing is a crap design and a total nightmare, one of the machined lips bust off it in knocking it in and if the lip of the seal happens to flex outwards its a nightmare getting the thing out again to sort it out....

Suffice to say it look longer than expected and the air was blue! [:D]

I have been happy with Rimmer's service. They certainly aren't giving their parts away but their stock is good, parts come neatly wrapped and numbered and their international shipping is very quick.
I have also received good service from Paddock and Bobsport so no bias here.

Hi. Just recieved an order from Rimmer Bros that I placed on Tuesday this week. (I live in Pennsylvania, USA) Got the full order in now.

Yes, I did find their order site to run slow. It did take me a bit of time to actually place my order once I found everything I needed. I didnot recieve an email from them stating the order has been placed. But when my web order was all said and done, the last thing I seen was a "your order has been placed". I have ordered alot from Rimmer over the years, and never had a problem.

The door weather stripping, are you referring to the outter door/window weather strips? I found the same as I needed them too. Now instead of having to order 1) Left, 1) right, the rubber they supply can be used on the right or left door. Actually, i found it esier than having two separate part #'s. Ill get back to you w/ease of fitting and installation notes if you'd like.

I just ordered a set of brake pads from a UK company since EBC said that was the only way to get them here in the US. Not Rimmer but a brake specialist. No email confirmation of the order for a week. They didn't respond to my email inquiries. I figured the order didn't go through. In the meanwhile, I found a US company that listed the pads. Not in stock but they agreed to special order. So.. finally the UK company finally ansered my email to say they were shipped. They did arive, at about twice the cost of the set I also ordered here in the US. So now I have two sets...maybe. EBC redstuff for the Rimmer big brake kit.

It is nice when orders are confirmed. They have the email so what's the deal? All of my online orders here in the US are confirmed via email. It's just a courtesy to let you know the order has been recieved.

OOOOOOHHHH Rimmmers.

There are several good suppliers in the UK like S&S and Robsport. I have found Rimmers to be a nightmare.

1. Rimmers use the most expensive postage possible and can not estimate the cost when you order. Just so unhelpful!!!!!!
2. They make pricing mistakes on the orders, especially during their annual sales and you have to get refunds
3. You get zero help or advice when you call.

My last order was with a TR Register group purchase so I had to use them. Here is what they did:

1. Did not send me a copy of the invoice for months so I did not find out that they had overcharged me on several parts PLUS charged me VAT for an export order. We could not get the parts into the country without the original invoice either.

2. We held up the whole club order to wait for several back orders. My big Brake kit Rotors were on B/O. We shipped when they told me that they would send these to me freight free as all other back orders had been fullfilled. They then tried to charge me for the freight. Rotors cost a lot to ship to New Zealand and remember, Rimmers use the most expensive freight possible.

During this whole process I called them maybe 12 times from NZ. Fortunately for me I kept a list of the times I called and who I spoke to. My last call to complain about the rotors coincidentally was answered by Mr Rimmer him self, he was on the phones that day to see how things were.

We sorted it after I sent him the list of calls I had made and the people I had spoken to but I really recommend you talk to everyone but Rimmers first.

One other thing, many of their rubber hoses etc are just sawn off a roll with a kitchen knife. Yes when I first got into TR's I made my first order from Rimmers and one of the hoses was a short straight item that arrived with 40 degree angled cuts on the ends. So their quality control is lousy! I also have one of their GENUINE TR8 sub frames and the ends of the mount uprights have not had their welded bracing completed. What do you do with that when it arrives in New Zealand, can't send it back for a warranty repair.

As you can see, not a quality experience, many people here in NZ say the same.

Now I have been to the UK and visited S&S, ordered from them and spoken to them many times. They are good!

Robsport is good too! User Numpty9 on ebay I think, very good.

Underdog.I know what you are saying with no confirmation you have no idea if the parts are arriving or not and then sometimes a better deal comes along in the meantime.The first company does not respond to anything so you think 'nothing happend then my bit's are not arriving I will order the others' and then months later the original order turns up !!!! I had some items out of stock backorderd from my rimmers shipment. I wrote to them with pen and paper to cancel them and they still arrived and I got charged.The only thing companies get from this awful service is no repeat business.
If it is not rubbing salt into your wound I carried in some EBC pads with my luggage on my Holiday to the USA a year ago.We were traveling coast to coast so could meet up with anyone just about anywhere.A guy on the forum for my old classic(ford capri)wanted them and had your trouble with supply.They cost about £30 / $60 and delivery was free.We met up in New York at my hotel'the new yorker' which was just over the road from Maddison Sq Gdns.We had a great night talking cars and so on.
When I offerd on the forum to bring any small unobtainable parts with me on my hol's some idiots were asking for axles,body shells and engines.Oh good grief!
