Looks like a fun show.

Why do the British get better car shows than we do in the US?

I have to watch top gear on the internet (60 days until the new season). Even Fifth gear is better than what we get.

If I tell someone I like racing they assume that I am talking about NASCAR, and then when I mention F1 their eyes glaze over.

I DREAM of having shows like that availabel here.

Wouldn't it be great if SPEED carried Top Gear or 5th Gear, rather than continuous repeats of Gears or Hot Rod TV and the like. Even during NASCAR's off-season they don't do much in terms of any other type or racing.

You can just imagine the conversation if they followed up the spitfire with a Tr7. . . .
"hello mike, what have you bought this week"?
" why Ed, it's a TR7"
" Hmmmm, let's strip it down"
Ratchety rachety, thump, clunk, grind etc
End of programme 1

Programme 2
Grind, chisel, thump, saw, grind
Sand, grunt, thump, grind
"#@#@!'ing TR7's
End of programme 2

Apart from the TR7V8 works rally teams when they were current, I've only seen one program on the TV that didn't have a laugh at our expense.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwllzPthJMY from TopGear Gti fronted by Steve Berry and featuring S&S. He's driving a TR7V8 on a number plate just 7 digits down from mine.

It's probably old news for us in the UK but maybe less so overseas.

We don't get Sky here, just TSN (Canadian) and Speed (US) as far as sports/car shows, we get other channels the sport BBC series, some oldies are: Neighbours (called Good Neighbours here), Warncliffe, All Creatures Great and Small, MI5, etc. Most car TV shows are US made truck/4 wheel drive/Muscle car shows overpowered with tecno music with the exception being My Classic Car with Dennis Gage, mostly about classic car shows with a short blip each week on restoration products/techniques etc. There used to be a good car show out of Toronto (can't think of the name off hand) were one of the guys raced cars and had a restoration shop were they did everything from muscle cars to gull wing Mercedes and they showed the step by step process. They traveled through out N/A and for every muscle car they featured there'd be a European sports/classic car. Like all good things it's no longer on. We don't get the good stuff you guys get in UK.

I use this site to download top gear and fifth gear (normally a few hours after they have aired in the UK).
http://www.finalgear.com/

It might be questionable to download a TV show online, but I know that some of the top gear employees (including producer Andy Wilman) have mentioned using the site themselves in their blogs, so I don't feel to guilty.

I watched the Spitfire 'restoration' last night and it wasn't half bad, they actually took the cylinder head off which must be a first on wheeler dealers.
I had to smile when Mike Brewer tried to get out of the drivers door and had to get Ed to help pull him out because he was to big and fat. Ed was too tall to have the top down at the end and his head was 6" above the windscreen so he had to wear goggles.
I have seen this pair a few times at the NEC and they are as good live as on TV.
Good entertainment value 9/10 (could have been a TR7)
