There were quite a few of these cars for sale a few years ago, all registered in the UK with LOC---X registrations and exported to the US. Usually this means the were personal imports to the US by members of the armed forces.

Wow. What a find.

Just one thing bothers me though. It says "drives like a new TR7" which tells me it needs some tinkering. [:D]

What do you do with a 30 year old new car? Do you put it into a museum? Do you trailor it from show to show? Or do you take it home & start putting the miles on it like it was made for?

I'd be willing to bet that the rubber seals & gaskets on it will leak like crazy, the weather stripping will be hard and brittle, the seat foam crusty, the gas tank will be rusted inside (normal, right?), etc. Sitting without use doesn't do a car a whole lot of good. Time does age cars regardless of whether they get driven or not and it already has a fair share of rust.
Personally, I wouldn't pay an excessively high premium for such a car.
I like the one I bought - 45,000 miles, broken in but not broken.

Wonder why the "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" sticker is under the temp gauge... [?]

and the possible condensation in the engine and trans will not have done any good. except for its uniqueness, you can almost duplicate the condition for less money.

Daft question this but, was it only state side TR7's that had the unleaded sticker on the fasia?

It might be only the 81's had it on the dash, my July '80 California Spider has a unleaded sticker going 'round the gas cap area.

I noticed that it doesn't have a Solihull badge on the front. Interesting.

Just another Triumph anomaly like the 1976 air pump on my 1979 built TCT.

Hi Spyder, yes i thought that might be it, now that you mention it, i have seen the unleaded fuel transfer beside the fuel filler cap on some TR7's cant quite remember if those were state side 7's or otherwise.

don't ever recall having the dash sticker on my '82, but I do still have the half-moon gas cap sticker.

I have been working on my pod all day. The sticker is just under the fuel gauge. I have one by the fuel filler also, but the lettering is gone.

I have an 80 DHC,and the Unleaded one on the dash is in that same spot as well...have the 1/2 moon one going around the filler as jclay mentioned as well.

I just saw this car on eBay last night prior to checking out this site. I put it on my watch list,as I am curious what the bidding will get up to (was at $4000 last I checked). I seem to remember a silver TR8 that had less than 100 miles on it on eBay a few years back...some guy bought it brand new and stuck it in a storage facility,as he thought the prices would go up drastically once they discontinued the line. He eventually passed away and his heirs were selling it on there. Finally,didn't someone buy the last 7 ever made;it was in a museum of some sort in Britain,and they were selling most/all of the cars at the time?

My 1980 TR7 California EFI has the Unleaded Fuel sticker on the dash
cluster lens by the fuel gauge (not the temp gauge) ...it wasn't uncommon. My car also had one by the fuel fill (had to be removed
for repaint). In the early 1980s fuel could be had without and with lead (for valve lubrication I think).

The last TR7 made is 80534 and is in the Heritage Motor collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire UK. At the time of manufacture I think it was part of BL so they would have transferred it straight from the line. The last TR8 is 80533 and belonged to Bob Tullius in the States, I think it was for sale last year.Bob also has the last TR6, Ive heard that he got both cars in recognition of the great work he did on BL race cars.
My TR8 efi was bought new, with no mileage in 1991 from a museum in the US. It now has 6,900 miles on the clock.
