<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">Hi, oldmanbitter. A regular contributor to this forum also has a pre-production DHC; he goes by the tag tr7inc. It might be worth having a chat with him to see if you can cobble together some ideas which could confirm your thoughts (and hopes) that you do also have a pre-production DHC. Maybe his VIN or registration is sequentially close to yours. I know Steve won't mind, he's very helpful and always willing to talk (I know only too well [;)] ).

Good luck.

The wings on mine are DHC wings and it has a 5 speed box, so I'm sure that it's a mish-mash car.

I emailed Steve and his pre-production car is Canley built, whereas my VIN says is a Speke car.

I'll have to see about getting the Heritage certificate, but don't really want to spend £35 to find out that it's just a 1978 FHC plate on a later DHC!

I love rust.

I think that is what you'll find it is. Alot of people dismantle a couple of cars to make one good one and use what ever chassis/reg number they want

I'm certain that it is a VIN plate from an earlier car. I checked the paint code on the VIN plate and it is HAD, which is Tara Green. The original colour of the car is Aqua. So it's a 1980/81 5speed DHC, with a 1978 4speed FHC VIN plate. Here in Ireland there is no MOT for cars over 30 years old and cheap tax & insurance, so I'll keep that information quiet!!

Thanks for all the help.

I love rust.
