fuel injection coil quick question

fuel injection coil quick question and hopefully my last before spark up.

on the coil module there is a spare terminal on the right hand side as you look face on, is this ground ? i,m only confused as i have had rework loom this end. also drawings suggest there is a service interval counter what does this look like. i have the green and green yellow wires for it.

Not familiar with that coil...but the fuel injection system is connected to the neg wire of the ig coil. This is the main input to the EFI system. There is one pulse of the injectors for one pulse of the ignition. Make sure it is connected or there will be no fuel. The tach operation is also based on a connection to the ig coil.

On my 1981 TR8 the emmisions interval counter box was located on the inner fenderwell, under the clutch and brake components. The speedo cable goes thru it. I just discarded mine and used regular speedo cables.

On my spare coil here at work the left connection has a white eight inch long wire that leads to a small radio noise supression module that is likely bolted near the coil. I can take pictures of my actual car setup tonight if you need it. There definitely is a ground from the coil to the top of the strut turret.

The service interval counter has a long speedomter cable leading up from the transmission on the bottom and a short one coming out of the top that goes into the speedometer itself. It has a green wire feeding into it and a green/yellow that is directed to the dash oxygen sensor light. It is there to tell you when to change the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold based (I think 20,000 miles). I believe many folks bypass the whole thing but I haven't and so I can't give you counsel on how that is done. If I take a picture of the coil you'll see the service interval counter below it.

The spare terminal on the RH side of your picture remains empty. The coil is grounded to one of the shock tower nuts by way of a wire with star washer type connector at either end, the other end goes under one of the nuts securing coil to inside fender.

My apologies for not posting a pic. I took the pictures last night but I've been struggling to get the pic on the forum. My setup is the same as FI Spyders. Right hand spade connection is empty. The left hand lead actually has a noise suppressor on it which is tucked under the coil itself and secured with the same bolt that is used to secure the coil. You can see the service interval counter below the coil in the pic.

I think in one sense they are the cat's meow. No fiddling with choke, no high reving when cold etc. just like a modern FI car we are all used to. Don't have to worry about car dying as we come off the throttle under various conditions as idle is automatically adjusted by the electronics. No tweaking of carbs ot trying to get carbs balanced. No running rich to wash the oil off cylinder liners or carboning up the combustion chamber and plugs, no lean surging or balking. Actually in a sense kind of boring, no adventures like one has with carbs.

Now with TCT I'll be able to have all the fun the rest of you carb guys have.[:D]

Certainly sounds like fun, im hooked already, but i quess for now at least i'll have to make do with me 2 litre engine, but who knows one day!!

thanks guys thats fantastic as usual, one less headache. thanks chris for the offer. but after looking through my many boxes i have found it i had discarded it. i seriously thought it was some gas or water meter i never looked at it that closly or i would have noticed the drive. to fit or not to fit that is the question. surely they need at some time to be reset i think its time to investigate.

tr7 inc the fuel injected tr7 is the same 2 litre engine as yours.
