Don't you get robbed for import duty etc for that Rimmer order when it crosses into the US?

I'll let you know. I have been tracking the package. It has not been delivered but it is in the US. So far there have been no other charges to my credit card after the 43.00 USD shipping.

I received an order from Robsport yesterday. It took two weeks to arrive (probably due to Canada Post Customs) and I did have to pay about 4% duty, but the order was almost half the cost compared to buying the same parts from the States.

Hmmm, so it's not that bad, even to Canada then.........

Good to know, been thinking hard about doing a nice little order myself!

I have found that S&S reply time have been slow had to chase them up a couple of times. There postage cost was over double that of Rimmers for the exact same item.

I contacted Robsport first with a list of what I was planning to purchase and received a postage estimate, which was very resonable. I've looked at larger orders before but the shippingwas too much. Always best to get a shipping estimate.

I'm in. Is there a group discount or is everyone doing it individually? Don't forget the sale Rimmers is having until the 31st.

Don't know of any group deals. But a while back I had got a quote on a Quaife from Rimmer including shipping. I ended up finding a used one. They sent a nice note stating they will do thier best to price match competitors on identical items. Perhaps being a rather big ticket item got thier attention.

Regaurdless of price, there are some things you just won't find over here. Moss has very limmited coverage on TR7/8 and I've had a couple bad experiances with VB. TRF used to have some NOS but I don't know how much of that is left. We have a couple really good specialists that provide neat modification bits but it seems that for OE or good repoduction parts as needed for a restotation, UK is the place for Wedges. Probably because of low demand over here. Unfortunately, on this side, not many restoring Wedge cars in comparison to MGBs and earlier TRs.

It makes sense to support vendors who in turn support our US TR-7's.

For daily running/maintenance parts, we can get them from US vendors and should support them unless you want your car off the road while you wait for your shipment from the UK to arrive. And I want to encourage VB and Moss to keep carrying TR-7 parts; they won't, obviously, if they believe that every enthusiast is ordering parts from UK vendors.

As Underdog notes, there are fewer and fewer restoration/body parts available from VB and Moss. TRF hardly even mentions TR-7's anymore in their email letters or on their web site. Unfortunately, that's when shipping costs and the variable exchange rate really have an impact on the total price.

Lastly, we should be careful of assuming that sale prices by Rimmers and Robsports are regular pricing. I'm sure their buyers seek out special deals from suppliers, and those deals will get passed on to fortunate customers. The same deals might not be available to the US vendors, so prices will look uncompetitive for a while.

What would make me look hard at UK vendors is the issue of quality. Some of the simplest items, like oil filters, coming out of VB and Moss are looking really chintzy these days. Let's hope that we can keep getting quality parts - let's not return to the glory days of BL.
