Hi Gaz, sorry to hear you arent going to stoneleigh, but of course do understand, bout saving the pennies etc, i havent been before and thought as its only an hour or so from me id see what its like, hope to meet you at another event Gaz, catch you soon.

Steve, if your original wiper blades are in good condition you needn't buy new ones. You can strip the black paint from the blades, theyÂ´re stainless steel like the arms and look fantastic when polished, i've done it! The rubber strip can be removed with care and refitted later. If you have a polishing mop kit then this would be the cheapest option. I'll try to upload some photos of my wipers and the windscreen lower strip that i've just "customized"

Chroming in NZ has become a bl[:(!][:(!]dy pain. Because of the toxic chemicals involved the compliance costs have soared so high that many shops just won't do it anymore. One bloke who still does it has taken to 'losing' your bits so he can flog them off to bolster his rapidly dwindling income. Incredible to think that such a thing could happen in paradise.

We saw a v8 with the scuttle panel chromed at one of the local shows last year and it looks great, unfortunatly couldn't find the owner to ask him about it, but its certainly worth doing.[;)]

How about wrapping it with kitchen foil just to see how it looks. [:o)]

I'd expect it to match the rest of the windscreen trim OK but there's just the chance it might look a bit overpowering. I'm just a conservative petrol head I guess.

I also agree that the windscreen base finishing strip looks overpowering if itÂ´s all chromed, but looks beautiful part chromed so iÂ´ve body coloured the bottom part (paint still hardening) Now the strip looks like an integral part of the body and the upper part looks like a precision fitted chromed trim. The only snag here is the price of the chroming, (i've reduced costs by polishing the part myself) and i`m so satisfied with the end result that iÂ´ve long since forgotten about the price!.

George that looks pretty sweet.

Do you have to chrome the whole thing then paint the bottom part after? Is chroming a dipping process or a coating process?

Chroming is a dipping process. I had the whole strip chromed, then i masked the top part with duct tape and sandblasted the lower part to provide a proper key for the etch primer, grey primer, base coat and lacquer respectively.
A much cheaper but possible alternative to chroming AND transportation (a great risk with such a delicate item, believe me!) would be to highly polish the strip, degrease and apply a special lacquer for polished surfaces, as sold by restoration companies like Eastwood, Frost,etc.
An "all in home" job and at a fraction of the cost of chroming. Just an idea!

No worries of us getting any sun in the UK then, but i quess for safety etc i too may have to have a rethink and just prime and re-satin black them, thanks again ,see you all at the show on sunday
