An Embarassing TR7 Moment!

Postby Rich in Vancouver » 27 Feb 2009 05:05

I had one of those the other day. It was a warm sunny afternoon, and I was on the way home in my TR7 FHC when I saw what is a rare sight around here. Coming the other way down the road was a Triumph Herald Convertible, top down with two fellows inside moving at a good clip (for a Herald!). For once I was on the ball and got my hand to the light switch in time to flash them as they went by. Damned if the bloody lights didn't wig-wag on me! That has only happened to me once before, also when greeting someone on the road. The two fellows in the Herald gave a cheery wave but I'm sure that they had a good laugh at my car's expense and probably shared a joke about TR7s.

Cheers,
Rich

BTW: I tried the lights again immediately afterwatd and they were synchronised perfectly. [:o)]

They might have had a laugh at your expense then but remember they too have to contend with Lucas as well as the interesting handling traits of the rear suspension fitted to the Herald! So who knows what little surprises are in store for them?</font id="Comic Sans MS"></font id="size2">

It's worse when you flash them in anger but I have found that as long as the light pod rmains attached to the car you have had a good day.

There's a lot made of the Herald rear suspension but in my experience they never got up enough speed to test its limitations.

Hmmm. Mini-lites, a roll bar, sponsorship decals. Something tells me that is not a standard Herald & I bet the rear has been stabilised too.

I loved my 13/60 rag top but it wasn't because of its handling & performance. I tested its limits & found it to be 83mph just before the big ends let go. Give me a winky wedge any day.

Hey Rich, our cars have personality. How many people own cars that can actually WINK at passersby’s?

We must be in a class of our own!

Me and a mate of mine form uni spent a happy summers evening riding round the student areas of Leeds in my 2 litre a few years ago - roof down, stereo up, lights up but with one disconnected so the car winked when I switched them on and off. Worked a treat with the girls "awwww that cars soo cute" who needs a puppy when you have a TR7 [:D]

A good time was had by all in the pub later on..... [;)]

Has happened to me in the past too - soon learn to just greet others with a hand wave, and not ever 'flash' the headlights !

I find that if I flick my light switch on & off quickly, a few
times, my lights start to cycle up & down, out of sequence, one
going up, as the other goes down. {I'm glad I relayed the lights].

Down the road is a house, with a number of young kids, who often
play in the front yard. The first time they waved to me, I got this
light thing happening, & they loved it, becomming quite excited.

Now they look quite disappointed if I don't do it. When I do, they
jump up & down, shouting & waving. I think it's great I cane give
someone a lot of fun, so easily. I hope their folks enjoy the
shouting.
