Just when you think your at rock bottom,some one chucks you a shovel!
Just sorned the green monster,no job=no dough so i cant afford the tax,
the mot or insurance-all up 1st of march.the auto is off the road too
a bit of welding needs doing underneath and insurance up.
Cant get any worse? It can...the Grinnall has let me down now!I had
noticed a twitch in the cornering a couple of times recently and on
moving the car yesterday into the garage to take a look there was a
clonk!Got out,scratched me head,looked round and noticed the n/s wheel
was sitting back towards the rear of its arch!Jacked it up,looked
underneath and fcuk me,the chassis leg has pulled away from the rear
floor location.It gets worse,the chassis leg is split 6" back from
ther too. I 'spose the good thing about it is that i wussnt doing 70 mph
down the M11 when it let go!
I am guessing that the leg cannot be plated up for an mot,so a new one
will be needed,which probably wants properly locating on a jig to
ensure accurate geometry is observed.DOOM,DOOM,DOOM!
I will call Bobsport to get the low down,but this all sounds very
expensive when your unemployed and skint.The lottery is my only hope!

What can I say [V]

Real bad news, sorry to hear the predicament. Its turning out to be one hell of a crappy year all told and we've only done 2 months. I already feel like I've done 10 rounds with Tyson.

Hope you have a modern to fall back on. I myself am dusting off the 2 litre and putting it back up for sale so I can try and buy a Mazda or something cheap to see me through these times.

Sorry to hear that[:(]

Could you guys in the UK explain something that I have been curious about for awhile? What exactly is mot? I think it is some sort of vehicle inspection/tax, but could someone explain it further?

For that matter could you tell a curious yank just what you have to do over there to be on the road?

Where I am in the States, all I need is a license tag for about $50.00 a year and insurance coverage. I don't need any inspection or anything like that (although I know you do in some places).

And by the way, the insurance agent just called and said the rollbar on my new 8 is going to raise the insurance about 200% because the underwriters say it is not an antique vehicle, it is now some sort of hot rod or something.

Sorry to hear about you troubles but you know what they say bad luck comes in threes and with the three cars off the road I think that should be you over and done with.

<u>Pup</u> The MOT is a test to make sure the car is road worthy after the car is three years old it must pass this test every year.I hope it is still like that I have been away from the UK for a number of years now

Hey Paul, sorry to hear about your problems there. Are you talking about the rear trailing arm mount separating from the bulkhead, or problems with an actual chassis leg? Guess it's obvious that the first option's a lot better than the second.

Pupinabox, an MOT is a Department of Transport inspection that has to be done annually in the UK to drive a car legally on the road. It's safety based & obviously you don't need one if the car is kept off the road - that's where the SORN (Statutory Off Road Notice - or something like that) comes in. To keep the car on the road, you also have to pay Road Tax annually too. Don't know how much that is now - been in Oz for 4 years now.

Paul, it seems so lame to say I'm sorry for your problems, but I am
mate. If you don't find something soon, perhaps you had better look
at comming to Oz.

I don't know about low loder stuff, or heavy haulage, but I know we
are always short of long distance drivers, for both semi trailers, &
for B double, & tripples. The only problem is 7s & 8s are a bit dear here.

What is exactly the extent of the damage and what caused it. Is there visible rust/rot?

Had another look today in daylight-

Does not seem as bad as i first thought.The chassis leg has torn away
from the n/s rear bulkhead/floor.The weld itself looks to have failed
judging by the rust.The bulkhead is intact,had a poke with a screwdriver
and could'nt find a weak spot.Might be able to re weld it back in
place without plating-the area where trailing arm bolts seems solid.
Just depends on how critical it is to locate properly.If i can fix it
for now,maybe i can replace the chassis leg later,after that lotto win!
