Hi All,
Just spotted someone selling a TR7 Reg document (V5 logbook) and VIN plate on Ebay!!
Surely thats illegal ? and probably against Ebay rules??

Hi Dave,
All looks suspect to me [:0] For a number plate transfer i thought (i may be wrong!) you need an MOT on both vechicles.
Cheers John.

Yes, that is totally illegal, They're are basically selling a cars identity, which then allows any scumbag to steal one of our cherished cars and ring it with the new documents. Is it possible to get Ebay to remove this listing before it gets into the wrong hands?

I have reported this item to Ebay so it should be removed as it's against their rules, you can't sell reg documents etc without a car.

Well done Howard, you just beat me to it.[:)]

There was a recent report in one of the forums of a stolen TR7 - this is just the sort of thing that would help them resell it to some unsuspecting buyer.

I reported this several hours ago and was told by Ebay that they have had an awful lot of similar reports. This must be illegal, it can only promote vehicle identity change and, as said previously, only needs a stolen car to complete the set. As we have already heard recently, a car was stolen down Dorset way only a couple of weeks ago. Everyone must remain vigilant to this kind of activity and everyone should report the item as unlawful until Ebay actually remove it.

Been happening a hell of a lot with mk1/2 Escorts, especially the RS models, people have been selling them as 'collectables for framing' , one guy has used the same picture of a rusty shell with several different logbooks over recent months. Problem is a lot of people are willing to buy them and as many are willing to turn a blind eye, several top concours cars are known (to some[;)]) to have been built up from suspect shells/plates etc.

All we can do is report to Ebay each one we see for sale.

cheers, Paul

In my experience eBay don't give a stuff about illegal sales. You can have spent a year putting a film together for some muppet to come along and copy it and sell it himself on eBay - you get in touch with them, go through the requisite ownership process and ultimately nothing happens.

eBay care about copyright issues, if you're big enough. A while back my wife had a deal with an artist who specialises in caricatures of celebrities, mainly sportsmen. He's quite well respected, and has photos of himself presenting the caricatures to many of the subjects. The deal was that he would put our t-shirts on his site, and we'd put them on our website and on eBay, and we'd split the difference.

So we bunged a load of t-shirts on eBay, and a load of them were removed for copyright violation. One of the large football shirt companies had objected. Thing is, some of the caricatures were of players from teams that didn't have their shirts.

So money talks on eBay. Powersellers and those with high feedback can get away with murder...

By the way, I've reported it too, and we have higher than average feedback, so it might do the trick.

I suspect you end up with the vin plates / doc so you cant then give another tr7 a new ident.

I do know this is was very common with pre 1973 cars e.g. free road tax ones, so poeple with e.g. a TR6 or landover just on the wrong side of things, end up with a free road tax car / scrap the wrong sided cars identity.

So you really never know what you are possible buying?

Has anybody mentioned this to the seller directly? He might be as shocked as some of us when he realises the possible ramifications and for the sake of a couple of quid might remove the item?

I'll email him straight after I've posted this and await his reply - wish me luck and watch this space!
