Robsport: recommend or otherwise

Postby MrT » 11 Feb 2009 19:08

Newbie here!

I'm looking to buy a '7: my favourite is the FHC, but I've more than a soft spot for the DHC too.

Now, Robsport have pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, and it looks quite good in the photos. But... they're not exactly just down the road from me, so before I trek over there on Saturday for a look, can anyone recommend (or otherwise) Robsport's cars? Bought one before? Seen them around? I'm not expecting immaculate, but don't want to travel all that way to see a tarted up heap full of filler (not for one minute suggesting their cars are rubbish, just after advise!).

For clarification, it's the metallic blue FHC on this page:

Many thanks,

Dale

Mrt,

Looking at the car and the price its looks ok to me. I can recommend Simon he will tell you all about the car full worts and good points. At the end you are buying from people in the know. But strongly recommend you ring up first.

Its the body shell is the most important thing with a TR7.

Well Dale, Robsport are well known to the TR7 fraternity & I many of us have dealt with them at one time or another. They know what they are doing & as with all the TR7 specialists they rely heavily on their reputation as fair traders.

They will be straight with you but don't forget you are looking at an old car so check it out thoroughly. Like Jim says, from the photo & brief description it looks a fair buy, so if they still have the car for sale I doubt your journey would be wasted. Give Simon a call.

I can whole heartedly recommend Robsport. Both Rob and Simon Hebditch are genuine, honest people. You will struggle to find a better company for anything TR7 related. I have dealt with Robsport for more years than I could shake a stick at, I have recommended them on numerous occassions and will continue to do so.

If they have what you want, buy it. You will also be starting a friendship that should last a lifetime.

Kind regards

Gary

I bought my new car from Robsport in January and would highly recommend them.

I flew down from Aberdeen and drove the car 500 miles home, and it drove perfectly, apart from the heater not working too well, but that was more due to the engine never getting a chance to warm up due to the -5 degree temperature outside!!

The car had been fully checked and serviced. A new hood and fuel tank was fitted and the car was supplied with print out of all the new parts that had been supplied and fitted for the previous owner by Robsport, which was quite comprehensive.

Thanks everyone,

I've been chatting to Simon by email, and he's sent me quite a few pics of it already. I think I'll be taking a trip over there at the weekend.

Gotta be better than the privately advertised gold DHC I saw a few days ago: up for £1395, but not much better than a scrapper[:0], and it was described as "not concours, but in a very nice, usable condition...".

Agreed,

Both Robsport and S&S are the good guys in the TR7/8 world.

Straight talking where it counts. The Rob in Robsport says he's "never happier than when he's taking customers' money". They talk a lot of sense and get repeat business.

I too have added many pounds to the Hebditch holiday / retirement fund!

Not only can they sell you the car and the parts you need to improve, service it - they also know the cars inside out as well.

Cheers

In the interest of fairness i should point out that there are other
alternatives out there!I always peruse the Rimmers catalogue to identify
what i want, then i ring Bob for a better price!Chances are he sold
Rimmers their stock anyway!Luckily for Steve and Simon at S&S,i live
too far away, else i'd bore them stoopid as well as the'sport boys'on
alternate weekends.Just sometimes,getting a consumable available
from the local motor factors can be cheaper/handier,i.e.plugs,'stats,
filters,oils-esp.if there is an 'ol git classic car enthusiast'behind
the counter-just dont tell him you have a TR7.'less you enjoy the scorn
and derision he will also furnish you with!
I prefer to buy parts that i can inspect rather than by mail order.
I bought a big brake kit from Rimmers once, and when it arrived i had
two o/s callipers! It took them two weeks and several parcels and phone
calls to sort out! They do have a lovely catalogue tho'!!
Image
Rimmers from above,and below,but again from above,S&S!

See ya. Paul

Robsport also stock a good line in Triumph DVD's!!!

Actually, I think I must have shares in the company I've spent so much with them on my car over the years. But to be honest I don't think anyone else would have agreed to have rebuilt it. A re-shell was recommended but I really didn't want to do that and so they got stuck in and the end result was an immaculate Speke built former rustbucket.
