Not entirely where I fit into this. I've owned a 1958 MGA since 1970, a TR6 since 1991, and just bought my TR8 a few months ago after years of wanting one. My oldest car, the MGA, is my most heavily modified, with no bumpers and an MGB engine. My TR6 has been lowered, as has my TR8. Maybe if my MG hadn't been a rusted out wreck when I acquired it, I would have been less likely to modify it. I've resisted doing body mods to all of my cars, though, figuring some future owner might want to "properly" restore them. But they are mine to have fun with for now. It really is sad that the Wedge doesn't get more respect. I looked at a couple of rusty TR7 convertibles before buying my TR8, and wish I could have rescued both of them. But I've also looked at several other MGs, TRs and Healeys over the years that were just too far gone, too. I'm glad some of you guys are able to save whole fleets of Wedges for the future, modified or original. I had to assure the previous owner of mine that I would indeed cherish it, before she would let it go.

Ken, with that selection and the mods, I think you fit in just fine! I think the snobbery over classics is restricted to the UK. Don't tell anyone, but I've got an MG too! (1275 midget).

MGA - now there's a cool car! have you seen the silver one with a V8 in it on ebay?

Still, wedge is the best!

Sal,
I have to agree; the Wedge is my new favorite. Of course, the MGA and probably even the TR6 could be hugely improved with a Rover V8! I may have to look for a second Wedge, as I'm keeping mine down in Oregon so I can begin to make a few West Coast events. Interestingly enough, one of the guys on the TR6 forum felt his Wedge wasn't welcome at the Portland All British Field Meet. I certainly hope that snobbery isn't widespread. I took my Wedge on a drive with Columbia Gorge MGA Club, and everybody wanted to see my V8!

Our club from Vancouver Island regularly has a few wedges go down to Portland ABFM. I haven't been yet and probably won't make it this year as I'm aiming for Triumphest at San Luis Obispo at end of September.

FI Spyder,

I would really like to drive down the coast to San Luis; I made that drive several times in the '60s in my MGA. But my Dad is turning 90 on the 30th of September, so I'm going to have to skip Triumphest. Hope to see some of your friends in Portland.

Paul, so true...I love my wedge 'cuz it goes with my "non-conformist" personality (some call "weird"). Looking forward to the good weather to spend hours on Christine just keeping her "original".
P.S. Saw a white one in Weston Coyney, Staffordshire yesterday- sounded awesome but going to fast to get the reg....Deb x
