Ken, quite simple I think. Cut to desired length and re-thread with correct pitch die.

I have to confess that this was Grinnalls doing not mine, but its been done on both my cars and stops them feeling like a lorry. On the V8 this is combined with a short shift housing (i think again basically it has a section cut out from the middle and then re-welded). Gives the gearbox a much closer throw and feel.

The shortened stick sounds like the easiest place to start. Thanks.

So if I properly understand Theo, you shortened the standard shifter, and slide the alloy tube over the stick then thread the new Mini knob on the old gear stick???

My shifter has a short shifter extension under the stick which makes it sit a couple of inches higher. I almost have to reach up to shift but the throw is only about 2.5" from odd to even gears so it feels nice & racy. [8D]

Odd, how did you get to have your console knobs above the stereo?

Odd,

Very nice! I especially like the shortened gearbox extension. Did you do all the work yourself?

I am editing an article written by Odd about the shifter housing modification with bigger photos. It will be up on the Technical Site soon.

only 25$.....that's actually one heck of a deal[:p]

Would be very worth while to purchase one while making an order and combining freight!
