Rollbar

Postby nick » 05 Feb 2009 23:34

There is an 8 on ebay that is equipped with a rollbar. I have been thinking of installing one but I see that it appears the bar may not allow the top (boot) to stow properly. Can anyone confirm this?

First off, the guy doesn't KNOW how to stow the top properly and the speaker boxes mounted that way will not let the top lay down properly.

I think that the speaker boxes are more of a problem that the roll bar. Go ahead and install a roll bar on your car.

There are several different designs to choose from. The picture below is the most handsome type in my opinion. Rimmers sell the Aley style hoop which is similar once you upholster it.

If I was the owner of the TR8 in the ebay link I'd mount mini box speakers on the inside of the hoop with a flat sub-woofer behind the seats. Then I'd put on some Englebert & find some teenagers to annoy.

I have a Kirk Racing bar. Top stows fine. The cover fits as well but the diagonals interfere with it a bit. I just tuck the front flap down between them and the rear bulkhead. With the top up, the one bow barely clears the rollbar hoop. This is OK with me as I want the maximum hieght above my head & still be able to use the top. I also had to bend the shoulder harness brkts somewhat to clear. I lost a bit of rearward seat travel but not a problem for me and I'm near 6ft tall. Be aware you will need to drop the gas tank to install. I'd probably say that unless you have a good reason, it's not worth the hassle. My reason is track days. Converts have to have one.

It can't have had many top-down days.

I'm surprised the plastic windows have lasted that long otherwise.

I like the look of that bar. The problem is shipping from Rimmer to the US. On a bulky item like that it would be cost prohibitive on my budget. I did find a bar on the US east coast for about the same price but, again, the shipping all the way across country will kill me.

You can see exactly whats going on there. He's not undoing the velcro and flipping the middle bar backwards so the roof cant make it over the roll bar properly.

My roll over bar gives me no problem if you fold the roof properly, but what you do need is a tailored hood bag/cover with bigger cut outs to fit round the pillars on either end.
